Eng vs SL 1st Test: England Name Their Playing XI

 

England named their playing XI for the first test match against Sri Lanka to be played at Old Trafford, Manchester starting from 21st August onwards.

Dan Lawrence and Ben Duckett would open the innings for England in the first test. Zak Crawley has been ruled out of the series due to an injury. Ollie Pope would be hoping to lead from the front coming at number 3.

The experienced Joe Root will bat at number 4. He would look to create an impact with the bat and ensure England registers victory. Harry Brook has been appointed as the vice-captain and will come at number 5. His performance in the West Indies series looked impressive with superb knocks.

Jamie Smith performed brilliantly in his debut series against West Indies to retain his place. He will come at the number 6th spot and will look to showcase his batting prowess.

The pace bowling options include Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson &Mark Wood. Atkinson performed brilliantly in his debut series against West Indies. Matthew Pots will be returning to the squad after recovering from an injury. Shoaib Bashir will be the lone spinner included in the playing XI during the first test against Sri Lanka.

England would look to dominate Sri Lanka

The England Cricket Team would look to showcase their domination at home after a 3-0 whitewash against West Indies.

Despite Ben Stokes not being there in the squad, England looks strong to defeat Sri Lanka in the Test series and move ahead in the ICC World Test championship points table.
