Eng vs SL 2nd Test Match: Olly Stone Named As Replacement For Mark Wood

 

The England Cricket Team announced their playing XI against Sri Lanka to be played at Lords, London on 29th August 2024. England was given a run for their money, but Joe Root’s experience led the hosts to win the first test match by 5 wickets.

Ben Duckett and Dan Lawrence would open the innings for England. Captain Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jamie Smith, and Chris Woakes will consist of middle-order batters. Root played a key role with an unbeaten 62 that helped England chase the target of 205.

The pace bowlers option consists of Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Olly Stone &Matthew Potts. Shoaib Bashir would be the lone spinner included in the playing XI. England performed brilliantly in the first test match.

England bundled out Sri Lanka for 236 runs on the first day.  The hosts looked in trouble before Jamie Smith’s brilliant century helped the hosts take the lead of 122 runs. Despite a superb batting effort by Sri Lankan batters including Mathews, Chandimal &Kamindu Mendis, the hosts were set a target of 205 in 2nd innings.

Mark Wood injured himself

Mark Wood injured himself after suffering a thigh injury on the 3rd day before Joe Root dismissed Rathnayake.

Olly Stone would feature in the playing XI after he featured during the 2nd Ashes Test match in 2023.  

England would be hoping to a take 2-0 lead in the series and move up to the points table of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.
