Eng vs SL 2nd Test: Sri Lanka Announce Playing XI

 

Sri Lanka announced their playing XI for the second test match to be played at Lords, London from 29th August onwards.

The visitors suffered 5 wicket loss in the first test match at Old Trafford, Manchester. Dimuth Karaunate and Madushka would open the innings for the visitors. Madushka had a horrible outing being dismissed cheaply.

Pathum Nissanka has been named as a replacement for Kusal Mendis. Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Dhananjaya de Silva& Kamindu Mendis comprise middle orders. Mathews and Chandimal scored half-centuries in the second innings. Kamindu Mendis scored well compiled century during 2nd innings that helped Sri Lanka set a target of 205 runs.

Ashita Fernando bowled brilliantly in the first test match, picking up 6 wickets. Milne Rathyanke did a decent job. Lahiru Kumara has been included in the playing XI replacing Vishwa Fernando. Prabath Jayasuriya is a lone spinner looking to create a good impact with disciplined lines and lengths.   

This match will be of great importance for valuable points in the 2023-25 ICC World Test championship cycle.

 

Sri Lanka would look to create an impact

Sri Lanka would look to create an impact as Dimuth Karaunate and Madushka could not contribute to both innings. The visitors were reduced to 6 for 3 in the first innings and then 1 for 2 during the second inning.

Ashita Fernando had a great outing picking 6 wickets and hopes to create a major impact with the ball.  Sri Lanka must fire across all cylinders that would help them to register victory and level the series at 1-1.
