Eng vs Sri Lanka 1st Test: Sri Lanka Name Their Playing XI

 

Sri Lanka named their playing XI for the first test match against England to be played at Old Trafford, Manchester on 21st August 2024.

They would be looking to give a tough fight against the England side in the first test match of the series. Dimuth Karaunate and Nishan Madushka would open the innings for the visitors.

Sri Lankan middle order has lots of experience with the likes of Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, & Dhananjaya de Silva. Kamindu Mendis would come at number 7 in the batting order.

Asitha and Vishwa Fernando would be the two genuine pace bowling options included in the playing XI. The right-arm pace bowler Milne Rathnayake will be making his debut and hoping to trouble the England batting lineup.

Prabath Jayasuriya will be the genuine spinner included in the playing XI. Kamindu and Dhananjaya would comprise part-time options.  

It promises to be an exciting contest as Sri Lanka would look to showcase their skills and defeat the hosts in their den. Sri Lanka registered a historic 1-0 series victory on England soil during the Test series in 2014.

Sri Lanka’s Performance In 2023-25 ICC Test Championship cycle

Sri Lanka is currently 4th in the 2023-25 ICC Test championship cycle so far. They played a total of 4 matches so far with 2 wins and 2 losses.

They whitewashed Bangladesh 2-0 in Bangladesh before suffering a 0-2 loss to Pakistan at home.  

Sri Lanka would be looking to provide a great fight against the England side and prove their worth with their all-round effort.
