Pak vs Bang 1st Test 1st Day: Saud Shakeel and Saim Ayub Leads Pakistan’s Recovery
Saud
Shakeel and Saim Ayub's half-centuries led Pakistan to a great recovery on a
rain- curtailed 1st day of 1st test match played at Rawalpindi
Cricket Ground on 21st August 2024.
After a
long delay due to the wet outfield, the match began at 3.00 PM IST. Bangladesh
captain Najmul Hasan Shanto won the toss and decided to bowl first on a pitch
that suited the pace bowlers. Hasan Mahmud produced a lovely delivery getting
rid of Abdullah Shafique caught by Zakir Hasan at slips.
Shoriful
Islam and Hasan Mahmud troubled the Pakistan batters with swing and seam. The
left-handed Islam then got rid of Shan Masood with a controversial decision. The
umpire gave not out, on review, it was overturned to out. He struck once more
dismissing Babar Azam with a stunning catch by Litton Das leaving Pakistan in
deep trouble at 16 for 3.
Saim Ayub
and Saud Shakeel steadied the ship for Pakistan with some lovely strokes. Both
looked impressive against disciplined Bangladesh bowling. It was a superb
batting effort as Pakistan recovered to 81 for 3 at the end of 2nd
session.
The third
session saw Saim Ayub reaching his maiden Test fifty off 76 balls. Both looked
impressive with positive strokes keeping the scoreboard ticking. Hasan Mahmud
got the much-needed breakthrough for Bangladesh dismissing Saim Ayub caught by
Mehidy Hasan Miraz at slips. Saim and Saud Shakeel added 98 runs for the 4th
wicket.
The experienced
Mohammad Rizwan came to the crease the batting looked easy positive decent
against disciplined Bangladesh bowling. On the other hand, Saud Shakeel completed
fifty off 83 balls. Rizwan showed intent against Shakib AL Hasan keeping pressure
on Bangladesh bowling. Pakistan recovered from a tough situation to 158 for 4
in 41 overs.
Saud
Shakeel and Rizwan added so far 44 runs for the 5th wicket. For
Bangladesh, Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmud took 2 wickets each.
