Ind vs NZ 1st Test 3rd Day: Great Day’s Of Cricket

 

The third day of the first test match between India and New Zealand saw exciting cricket on a good batting paradise played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on 18th October 2024.

Starting on the overnight score of 180 for 3, Rachin Ravindra and Mitchell struggled against the good-quality bowling of Siraj and Bumrah. Siraj eventually struck with the first blow dismissing Mitchell with a stunning catch by Yashasvi Jaiswal at gully. Bumrah produced another peach to get rid of Tom Blundell.

Rachin Ravindra showed his class with fifty off just 88 deliveries. Ravindra Jadeja struck twice in quick succession dismissing Phillips and Matt Henry. Rachin Ravindra made the batting look easy with attacking shots keeping the scoreboard ticking. Tim Southee also joined in the party putting the Indian bowlers under immense pressure. Both NZ batters kept the scoreboard ticking making sure that they didn’t allow any chances to the Indian team. Rachin Ravindra reached his century off 124 balls keeping NZ in a commanding position. New Zealand ended the first session with 345 for 7.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma took the second new ball in the 82nd over. Southee completed fifty of 57 deliveries. Siraj eventually struck with a slower delivery caught by KL Rahul at covers. Southee and Rachin Ravindra added 137 runs for the 8th wicket. Kuldeep Yadav did not review for LBW shout against Rachin Ravindra. Kuldeep then struck in the same over to dismiss Ajaz Patel. Rachin was given out by the umpire; it was overturned too not out. Kuldeep Yadav struck to dismiss Rachin with an easy catch by Dhruv Jurel. New Zealand scored 402 runs on the board with a lead of 356 runs.

In reply, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal started off brightly with positive intent not allowing the NZ bowlers to settle. Indian openers did not allow them to settle keeping the scoreboard ticking. Indian team ended the 2nd session at 57 for 0.

Yashasvi Jaiswal looked threatening to score big runs, was dismissed trying to hit a big shot. Jaiswal and Rohit put on 72 runs for the first wicket. Virat Kohli survived a few anxious moments before Rohit made batting look easy, making fifty off 59 deliveries. Soon after, Rohit was dismissed in an unfortunate manner by Ajaz Patel. Sarfaraz Khan showed intent right from the word go along with Virat Kohli.

Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan scored runs easily against Ajaz Patel keeping the scoreboard ticking. Sarfaraz reached fifty of 42 deliveries while Virat Kohli completed his half-century off 70 deliveries. Kohli was given a reprieve as Ajaz Patel dropped a tough chance.

New Zealand got much-needed energy dismissing Virat Kohli off the last delivery. Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan added 136 runs for the 3rd wicket. India ended day 3 on 231 for 3 with a trail of 125 runs.

 India 46 in 31.2 overs (Pant 20, Henry 5/15, Rourke 4/22) and 231 for 3 in 49 overs ( Sarfaraz Khan 70*, Kohli 70, Ajaz Patel 2/70) trail New Zealand 402 in 91.3 overs (Rachin Ravindra 134, Southee 65, Ravindra Jadeja 3/72, Siraj 3/99) by 125 runs.  



 





India ended the 3rd day at 231 for 3 still trail by 125 runs
