Ind vs NZ 1st Test 4th Day: New Zealand On Course For A Famous Win

ended the fourth day against India in a strong position during the 4th
day of the 1st test match played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
on 19th October 2024.
Starting on
the overnight score of 231 for 3, Sarfaraz Khan showed intent against the New
Zealand pacers keeping the scoreboard ticking. India got a reprieve as Sarfaraz
Khan and Pant were involved in a mix-up, but Tom Blundell could not hit the
throw onto the stumps. Sarfaraz Khan made the batting look easy along with
Pant. Sarfaraz reached his maiden Test century with a boundary-off 110
deliveries. Pant survived two DRS calls off successive deliveries. Pant reached
his half-century off 55 balls to keep the momentum going for India. With rain
arrived, India ended the first session at 344 for 3.
After a long
delay due to rain, Sarfaraz Khan and Pant showed intent against the New Zealand
bowlers keeping the scoreboard ticking. NZ captain Latham took the second new
ball immediately. Sarfaraz Khan completed 150 off 194 balls. Tim Southee and
Matt Henry troubled both well-set batters. Southee got the breakthrough by dismissing
Sarfaraz Khan by providing an easy catch to Ajaz Patel at covers. Sarfaraz Khan
and Pant added 177 runs for the 4th wicket. Pant showed intent by
smashing Matt Henry for 107 m six.

Rourke struck dismissing Pant for 99 taking an inside edge onto the stumps. Rourke
produced a peach of a delivery to dismiss KL Rahul leaving India in trouble.
India ended the second session at 438 for 6.
After the
tea break, Rourke struck again to dismiss Ravindra Jadeja providing an easy
catch to Will Young at square leg. Ravichandran Ashwin showed intent with some
good shots before Matt Henry bowled a good delivery. Ashwin decided to review,
it was retained as the umpire’s call.
Henry then
grabbed the wickets of Bumrah and Siraj to bundle out India for 462 runs in the
second innings. India set a target of
107 runs.
Dhruv Jurel
came as wicketkeeper by replacing Pant. Bumrah delivered four balls before bad
light and the rain stopped play early. New Zealand requires 107 runs to win the
first test match.
