Pak vs Eng 1st Test 3rd Day: England Batters Makes Merry

 

The England batters made merry with a dominating display on the 3rd day of the 1st test match against a lackluster Pakistani bowling lineup played at Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan on 9th October 2024.

Starting on the overnight score of 96 for 1, Zak Crawley and Joe Root started off brightly with positive shots. Shaheen Shah provided the breakthrough dismissing Zak Crawley with a rebound catch by Aamer Jamal. Crawley and Root added 109 runs for the 2nd wicket. Ben Duckett looked in great touch hitting boundaries with ease.

Root reached fifty off 76 balls while Duckett showed his class by smashing a half-century off 45 deliveries. Both England batters kept the scoreboard ticking not allowing the Pakistani bowlers to settle. England went into the lunch break at 232 for 2.

Duckett and Root kept the momentum going for England in the second session. Jamal struck with a big blow dismissing Duckett. Duckett and Root added 136 runs for the 3rd wicket. Harry Brook showed intent right from the word go playing some lovely shots making life tough for Pakistan bowlers. It was an amazing batting by Brook reaching fifty off 49 deliveries.

Joe Root became the leading run-getter in Test matches surpassing Cook’s record. He reached the century off 167 deliveries. Root struggled with cramps but went on with the job along with Brook. England ended the 2nd session in a dominating 351 for 3.

The third session started on a positive note as Root and Brook kept the momentum going. Brook made the batting look easy not allowing the Pakistan bowlers to settle. Naseem Shah bowled reasonably well with some trouble. Shan Masood took the second new ball in the 86th over. Root survived a close LBW shout given not out on review decision retained as not out due to the umpire’s call.

Brook smashed a century off 118 deliveries while Root reached 150 off 235 deliveries. It was a superb batting effort by Root and Brook ending the 3rd day on 492 for 3. Both batters put on so far 243 runs for the 4th wicket.

England 492 for 3 in 101 overs (Root 176*, Brook 141*, Aamer Jamal 1/78) trail Pakistan 556 in 149 overs (Shan Masood 151, Salman Ali Agha 104*, Leach 3/160, Carse 2/74) by 64 runs.



  





England ended day 3 on 492 for 3 with Root and Brook put on 243 runs for the 4th wicket
