Pak vs Eng 2nd Test 1st Day: Exciting Day Of Cricket
The first
day of the 2nd test match between Pakistan and England saw some excellent
cricket played at Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan on 15th October
2024.
Pakistan
captain Shan Masood won the toss and decided to bat first. After the initial spell
by Brydon Carse and Matthew Potts, England captain Stokes decided to bring Jack
Leach and Shoaib Bashir into the attack. Jack Leach got the breakthrough
dismissing Abdullah Shafique with beauty. Leach then took the wicket of Shan
Masood with an easy catch to Zak Crawley at short midwicket to leave Pakistan
in trouble at 19 for 2.
The
debutant Kamran Ghulam came to the crease with positive intent against Leach
and Shoaib Bashir. Saim Ayub also looked impressive against both England
spinners. Both Pakistani batters showed intent on keeping the scoreboard
ticking making life tough for England bowlers. It was a good effort by Saim and
Kamran to end the first session at 79 for 2.
Saim Ayub
looked confident reaching his fifty of 97 deliveries. England captain Stokes
decided to start with Bashir and Leach in the second session. Kamran Ghulam made
the batting look easy, reaching his half-century off 104 balls. Stokes brought
in Brydon Carse into the attack replacing Shoaib Bashir.
Stokes bought
himself into the attack and troubled Kamran Ghulam. Ghulam struggled with cramps
in his forearm. There were some nervy moments for Ghulam. Right before the tea
break, Matthew Potts got the wicket of Saim Ayub providing a simple catch to Stokes
at mid-off due to superb field placement. Ayub and Ghulam added 149 runs for
the 3rd wicket. Pakistan went into the tea break at 173 for 3.
Brydon
Carse and Matthew Potts began the third session with disciplined lines and
lengths not allowing Saud and Ghulam to score runs easily. Carse proved his
worth with a lovely delivery to dismiss Saud caught by Jamie Smith. Mohammad Rizwan survived a few anxious moments
initially.
Ghulam was
dropped by Ben Duckett. After the drop chance, Ghulam looked confident while
Mohammad Rizwan was given a reprieve as Ben Stokes did not appeal for a review
for a caught behind. Ghulam scored a well-deserved ton in the maiden innings
with a superb boundary off 192 deliveries. The England captain took the second
new ball immediately. Shoaib Bashir showed his class with a stunning delivery
that turned and shattered the stumps for a superb 118. Rizwan and Ghulam added 65
runs for the 5th wicket.
Mohammad
Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha ensured that Pakistan ended the first day on 259 for
5.
Pakistan
259 for 5 in 90 overs (Kamran Ghulam 118, Saim Ayub 77, Leach 2/92)
