Pak vs Eng 2nd Test 2nd Day: Match Evenly Poised
It was an exciting
2nd day of cricket between hosts Pakistan and England where a total
of 11 wickets fell played at Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan on 16th
October 2024.
Starting on
the overnight score of 259 for 5, Mohammad Rizwan could add only 4 runs dismissed
by Brydon Carse with a simple catch by Jamie Smith. Salman Ali Agha showed
intent with some lovely shots keeping the scoreboard ticking along with Aamer
Jamal. Matthew Potts produced a peach of a delivery that bounced on Salman Ali
Agha with an easy catch to Smith. Agha and Jamal added 38 runs for the 6th
wicket.
Nauman Ali
looked confident with his shots while Jamal struggled with his hip injury.
Nauman and Jamal showed intent by playing attacking strokes keeping the
scoreboard ticking. Both Pakistani batters ensured that they ended the lunch session
at 358 for 8.
Brydon
Carse shattered the stumps of the very first delivery after lunch break
dismissing Aamer Jamal. Jamal and Nauman Ali put on 49 runs for the 9th
wicket. Zahid Mahmood looked out of sorts against Carse and Potts. Leach
eventually dismissed Nauman Ali providing an easy catch to Carse at deep midwicket.
Pakistan posted a competitive total of 366 on the board.
In reply,
Ben Duckett showed intent right from the word go putting the pressure on the
Pakistani bowlers. Zak Crawley did not allow spinners including Nauman and
Sajid Khan to settle with attacking shots. Crawley survived the LBW shout given
out by the umpire, on review it was overturned to not out missing the leg
stump.
Nauman Ali got
the breakthrough dismissing Zak Crawley. The umpire called not out; on review
it was overturned to out as hit the outside edge. Crawley and Duckett added 73
runs. Duckett looked in positive touch reaching fifty off just 47 deliveries. England
ended the second session at 88 for 1.
Duckett and
Ollie Pope showed intent by keeping the scoreboard ticking with boundaries.
Sajid Khan produced a stunning delivery that turned crashing into the stumps. Duckett
and Pope added 52 runs for the 2nd wicket. Joe Root survived an anxious
moment on his first delivery from Sajid Khan.
Duckett and
Joe Root kept the scoreboard ticking with innovative strokes. Both batters
showed intent not allowing Pakistani bowlers to settle. Aamer Jamal went off
the field due to an injury. Duckett completed his century off 120 deliveries to
keep England on course. Sajid Khan delivered a major blow dismissing Joe Root by
taking an inside edge onto the stumps. Duckett and Root added 86 runs for the 3rd
wicket.
Sajid Khan
struck twice in the same over by dismissing centurion Duckett with a simple
catch to Agha at slips and produced a stunner to get rid of Harry Brook. Nauman
Ali took the wicket of England captain Stokes with a sharp catch by Abdullah
Shafique at short leg to trigger collapse. Brydon Carse and Jamie Smith made
sure that England ended day 2 on 238 for 6.
