Pak vs Eng 3rd Test 1st Day: Superb Days Of Test Cricket
It was an
exciting days of test cricket in the deciding and final match of the series
played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi on 24th October
2024.
England
captain Ben Stokes won the toss and decided to bat first. The pitch had a lot
of turn right from the word go. Sajid Khan and Nauman Ali troubled Zak Crawley
and Ben Duckett. After initial trouble, Duckett showed intent to keep the
scoreboard ticking with sweeps and reverse sweeps.
Nauman Ali
got the breakthrough for Pakistan dismissing Crawley with a good catch by Saim
Ayub. Crawley and Duckett added 56 runs for the opening wicket. Sajid Khan
produced superb delivery to dismiss Ollie Pope. Sajid then showed his class
with a beauty that turned hitting in front of the stumps leaving England in
trouble. Duckett looked confident with his shots reaching his fifty off 76
balls. Nauman Ali got rid of well set Duckett. Sajid delivered a beauty to dismiss
Harry Brook leaving England in deep trouble.
It was a
superb performance by Nauman Ali and Sajid Khan going unchanged in the entire
first session. England ended the first session at 110 for 5.
Sajid Khan
delivered the goods again dismissing Ben Stokes with an easy catch to Salman
Ali Agha. Jamie Smith and Gus Atkinson showed his class smashing the Pakistani
bowlers to all over the park. Jamie Smith made batting look easy keeping
scoreboard ticking with big shots. Smith looked in superb touch, reaching his
fifty off just 94 deliveries. It was a superb partnership that steadied the
England innings due to Shan Masood’s poor captaincy.
Nauman Ali got
the much-needed breakthrough dismissing Atkinson with a simple return catch.
Atkinson and Smith put on 105 runs for the 7th wicket. Jamie Smith
launched an assault keeping momentum going on. Zahid Mahmood broke the resistance
of Jamie Smith with a simple stumping by Rizwan. It was a great effort as
England scored 242 for 8 in the second session.
Sajid Khan
rattled the last two wickets dismissing Rehan Ahmed and then Jack Leach to
bundle England out for 267. Jamie Smith and Atkinson rescued England for a competitive
total.
In reply,
Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub began the innings with positive intent against
pacers keeping momentum going on for Pakistan. Shoaib Bashir got the
breakthrough dismissing Shafique. Shafique& Ayub put on 35 runs for the
opening wicket.
After the drink’s
interval, Jack Leach struck dismissing Ayub providing easy catch to Root at
short midwicket. Gus Atkinson delivered peach getting rid of Kamran Ghulam
shattering the stumps to leave Pakistan in some trouble. Shan Masood and Saud
Shakeel looked confident with their stroke play, ending the first day at 73 for
3.
