Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2024: India Thrash Thailand
The Indian
Women’s Hockey displayed a dominating performance in their 3rd match
of the Asian Champions Trophy tournament played at Rajgir International
Complex, Bihar on 14th November 2024. It was a great display of
hockey right from the word go putting pressure on the Thailand team.
It was an
ideal start for the hosts as Deepika hit a forceful reverse flick shot into the
goal in the 2nd minute to give them a 1-0 lead. Preeti Dubey hit
another powerful shot inside the D giving no chance to the Thailand goalkeeper
in the 9th minute to make it 2-0 in favor of India. Thailand could have gotten a chance, but Udita
intercepted and denied them. Lalremsiami scored with the goalkeeper saving the
shot before she hit in the goal in the 12th minute with a 3-0 lead.
At the end of the first quarter, India led 3-0.
India
started the 2nd quarter as they earned a penalty corner, but the
shot was well saved by the Thailand goalkeeper Siraya. Deepika scored her
second of the game as Sangita Kumari tackled from the Thailand defense before
she converted into the goal in the 19th minute allowing the Indian
team a commanding 4-0 lead. Soon after,
the hosts earned a penalty corner, the shot was well saved by Siraya. They kept
the pressure on the Thailand defense with aggressive moves but could not
convert into a goal. Thailand hit a lovely shot from the counterattack, but Jyoti
made an important interception. Beauty converted
from a rebound by the Thailand goalkeeper in the final minute of the first
half. India ended the first half with a scoreline of 5-0. India made 18 circle
penetrations in the first half which resulted in 5 goals.
The third
quarter began well for the Indian team with aggressive moves, but Thailand
goalkeeper Siraya made lovely saves. Preeti Dubey scored his 2nd
goal this match in the 40th minute as Thailand goalkeeper Siraya looked
clueless to make it 6-0. Deepika scored 3 goals in succession as the hosts
completed demolition ending with a 9-0 scoreline. Deepika scored 2 from penalty corners while 1
was a field goal.

Kaur scored her first goal of the match with a pass by Sushila Chanu in the 53rd
minute to make the scoreline 10-0. Manisha Chauhan scored from a penalty corner
in the 55th minute to make it 11-0. Indian team decided to take the
goalkeeper away from the goalpost. Lalremsiami showed her class with a
deflection from a penalty corner in the 56th minute. Manisha kept
her calm scoring a field goal in the 58th minute to end the game at
13-0. With this win, India moved to 9 points along with China.
Malaysia stunned three-time Champions South Korea in a thrilling 2-1 win. China registered a 2-1 win over Japan in the second match of the day. China and India is currently at 9 points each, due to a better goal difference, China is at the top of the points table. The top two teams in the competition India and China will face next on 16th November 2024.
