China Master 2024: Top Indian Shuttlers Qualify For Next Round
The top
Indian Shuttlers progressed into the second round with impressive wins of Super
750 China Masters played at Shenzhen Arena, China on 20th November
2024. It was a good performance by the Indian Shuttlers who would be looking to
showcase their talent after disappointing performances during previous
tournaments.
Lakshya Sen
took his revenge defeating Paris Olympics bronze medalist Lee Zi Jia of
Malaysia in three thrilling games. Sen looked impressive in the first game with
aggressive intent, winning it by 21-14. The Malaysian then produced a
dominating performance in the second game to win it by 21-13 to force the match
into the decider. Lakshya produced a great performance, winning the decider by
21-13 to progress into the second round. He will face Rasmus Gemke of Denmark
in the second round tomorrow.
The women’s
singles section saw PV Sindhu cruise past higher seed Busnan Ongbamrunghpan of
Thailand in two straight games. The first game saw both players fighting for
each point before the Thai player took a slender 11-10 lead at the break. After
the break, it was a closely fought affair before the Indian showed her class to
win the first set by 21-17. The second game was also a closely fought affair
right from the word go. At the mid-game break, Busnan had an 11-9. Sindhu
struggled before showing her class with smashes putting enough pressure on the
Thai player winning it by 21-19 moving into the second round. She will face Yeo
J M of Singapore.
Malvika
Bansod stunned higher-ranked Denmark player L Kjaersfedt in three thrilling
games. The first game was a closely fought affair right from the word go before
the Danish player won it by 22-20. The second game was another closely fought
affair, but this time Bansod won it by 23-21 to force the match into the
decider. Bansod showed her attacking shots in the decider and did not allow the
Danish player any chance of winning by 21-16 to move into the second round. She
will face Kathenong of Thailand.
The women’s
doubles pairing of Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated Hu L F and Jheng
Y C of Chinese Taipei in straight games. It was a dominating performance by the
Indian duo putting enough pressure on the opponents winning it by 21-15, 21-14
to move into the second round. They will face second-seeded Liu SS and Tan N of
China.
After a
long layoff, the men’s doubles pair of Satwik/Chirag Shetty registered a
thrilling comeback win over Chinese Taipei’s Lee JH and Yang P HS in three
thrilling games. The Indian pair struggled losing the first game easily by
12-21 before making a stunning comeback in the next two games winning with a margin
of 21-19, 21-18 to move into the second round. They will face Kjer and Sogaard
of Denmark.
