China Masters 2024: Two Indian Shuttlers Progress Into Quarter Finals
It was a disappointing
outing for the Indian Shuttlers with 2 of them moved into the quarterfinals of
the Super 750 China Masters played at Shenzhen Arena, China on 21st
November 2024. Out of the 6, Lakshya Sen and men’s doubles made it into the top
stage of the tournament.
The women’s
section saw PV Sindhu suffering her first loss to Singapore Yeo Jia Min in
three thrilling games. The match ebbed and flowed right from the word go before
Yeo held onto her nerves to win the first game easily at 21-16. Both players
looked in great shape during the second game with both players fighting for
each point. At the mid-game break, the Indian led 11-8. This time around, Sindhu
showed great character to win the second game at 21-17.
PV Sindhu had
a great start to the third game putting enough pressure on Singapore. After the
break, Yeo played with aggression, taking 6 successive points to take the lead.
Both players fought for each point before Yeo held onto their nerves to win the
deciding game at 23-21 to register the first-ever win over Sindhu.
Malvika
Bansod suffered a straight-game loss to Kathethong by 9-21, 9-21. It was a
disappointing performance by the youngster after stunning the higher-ranked Denmark
player in the first round yesterday. Anupama Upadhyay also could not go past her
opponent Nidara of Japan losing in straight sets at 7-21, 14-21.
The women’s
doubles pairing of Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand suffered straight games
loss to Liu SS and Tan N of China. It was a disappointing performance by the
Indian pair with a gap of 16-21, 11-21 to be knocked out of the tournament. The
mixed doubles pair of Sikki and Sumeeth Reddy gave a walkover.

Qualify for the quarterfinals
Lakshya Sen
showed her domination with a straight-game win over Rasmus Gemke of Denmark. Sen
looked in complete control right from the word go keeping the pressure on the
opponent winning it by 21-16, 21-18 to move into the quarterfinals. He will face
Anders Anotsen of Denmark.
The men’s
doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag Shetty dominated Kjaer and Soggard in straight
games. It was a closely fought first game with both players fighting for each
point before the Indian pair won it by 21-19. Satwik/Chirag produced a
dominating performance in the second winning by 21-15 to enter the
quarterfinals. They will face Astrup and Rasmussen of Denmark.
