Ind vs Eng 1st T20I: India Starts The Series With A Dominating Win

 

The Indian Cricket Team started the T20I series against the visiting England side with a dominating win played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 22nd January 2025.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start as Arshdeep Singh struck in the first over itself with a lovely delivery surprising Phil Salt providing a simple catch to Sanju Samson. Jos Buttler showed intent putting some pressure on the Indian bowlers.

Arshdeep Singh became the leading wicket-taker for India in T20I format dismissing Ben Duckett with a sharp running catch by Rinku Singh. Jos Buttler smashed 4 boundaries against Hardik Pandya. Varun Chakvarthy was given the chance to bowl early as Harry Brook and Buttler struggled to pick him up. At the end of the first six overs, England scored 46 for 2.

After the field restrictions, Jos Buttler looked impressive hitting some lovely shots keeping the scoreboard ticking. Varun Chakvarthy was simply outstanding with his deliveries getting wickets of Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone. Both Brook and Livingstone stumps were shattered. Brook and Buttler added 48 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Jacob Bethell struggled against Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakvarthy with their variations. Buttler remained calm, reaching fifty off 34 deliveries. Hardik Pandya struck dismissing Jacob Bethell with a simple catch to Abhishek Sharma at deep midwicket. Axar Patel got into the attack dismissing Jamie Overton as Nitish Kumar Reddy took an easy grab at long-off.

Axar Patel eventually dismissed Atkinson, keeping England under immense pressure. Buttler’s fine innings ended as Nitish Kumar Reddy took a stunning catch diving forward. It was a stunning bowling effort by Indian bowlers as they did not allow England batters to score runs easily especially the spin trio of Bishnoi, Axar Patel& Varun Chakvarthy. The hosts bundled them out for 132 in 20 overs. For India, Varun Chakvarthy took 3 wickets, while Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel &Arshdeep Singh took 2 wickets each while one was a run-out.

Abhishek Sharma blasted away England bowlers

Chasing down a modest total of 133 runs to win, Sanju Samson showed intent smashing 22 runs against Gus Atkinson in his first over including 4 fours and 1 six. Abhishek Sharma also joined the party with attacking shots against the England fast bowlers keeping the momentum going for India. 

Jofra Archer struck twice dismissing Samson& Suryakumar Yadav in the same over. Samson and Abhishek Sharma put on 41 runs for the opening wicket. At the end of the first six overs, India raced away to 63 for 2.

Abhishek Sharma was given a reprieve as Adil Rashid dropped a simple return catch. He then put Adil under immense pressure with big shots. Abhishek completed well fifty off 20 deliveries keeping India on course for a win.

Abhishek Sharma was simply sensational with his power-hitting. His innings ended trying to a hit big shot caught by Harry Brook at long-on. Abhishek Sharma scored 79 off 34 deliveries with 5 fours and 8 sixes. Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma put on 84 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Tilak Varma hit the winning runs with a boundary as India registered a 7-wicket win with 43 balls to spare.

For his figures of 3 for 23 in 4 overs, Varun Chakvarthy was named the player of the match. India takes a 1-0 lead in the 5-match T20I series. The second match will be played in Chennai on 25th January 2025.

India 133 for 3 in 12.5 overs (Abhishek Sharma 79, Samson 26, Jofra Archer 2/21) beat England 132 for 10 in 20 overs (Buttler 68, Varun Chakravarthy 3/23) by 7 wickets.
