Ind vs Eng 2nd T20I: India Beat England In A Thrilling Contest
The Indian
Cricket Team edged past England in a thrilling 2nd T20I match played
at M Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk on 25th January 2025.
Indian
captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss again and decided to field first. It was
an ideal start for the hosts as Arshdeep Singh struck in the first over
dismissing Phil Salt with a simple catch to Washington Sundar at deep square
leg. Jos Buttler looked in sublime touch putting some pressure on Indian
bowlers with attacking shots.
Washington
Sundar struck on his first ball dismissing Ben Duckett trying to hit a reverse
sweep providing an easy catch to Dhurv Jurel at backward point leaving England
in trouble. Buttler looked in great touch keeping the scoreboard ticking making
life tough for Indian bowlers. England scored 58 for 2 at the end of the first
six overs.
Varun
Chakvarthy produced a lovely delivery to dismiss Harry Brook. Buttler and Brook
added 33 runs for the 3rd wicket. Liam Livingstone struggled against
the Indian spin trio not able to hit big shots. Right before the drinks break,
Axar Patel dismissed the well-set Buttler caught by Tilak Varma at deep
midwicket.
Axar Patel
struck again getting rid of Liam Livingstone caught by substitute Harshit Rana
at deep backward square leg. Jamie Smith making his T20I debut for England
looked in aggressive touch keeping Indian spinners under some pressure. After
smashing 10 runs from the first 2 deliveries, Abhishek Sharma took the wicket
of Jamie Smith caught by Tilak Varma at long-on.
Brydon
Carse replacing Gus Atkinson played with intent against Indian spinners while
Jamie Overton struggled to rotate the strike. Varun Chakvarthy dismissed Jamie
Overton with a lovely delivery. Carse and Overton added 32 runs for the 6th
wicket. Overton contributed just 5 runs.
Soon after,
the mix-up resulted in the run out of Brydon Carse. Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid
added valuable runs for England as they posted 165 for 9 in 20 overs. For
India, Axar Patel& Varun Chakvarthy took 2 wickets each while Arshdeep
Singh, Washington Sundar &Hardik Pandya grabbed a single wicket each.
Tilak Varma
played a match-winning knock
Chasing
down 166 runs to win, Abhishek Sharma began with 3 boundaries in the first over
against Jofra Archer. Sharma fell to Mark Wood while Samson was dismissed by Jofra
Archer caught by Brydon Carse.
Tilak Varma
showed intent right from the word go against Jofra Archer not allowing them to
settle. Suryakumar Yadav also looked impressive with positive strokes. Carse
got the breakthrough dismissing Suryakumar taking an inside edge onto the
stumps. Tilak and Surya added 39 runs for the 3rd wicket.
India scored 59 for 3 at the end of the first six overs. Brydon Carse showed his skills by dismissing Dhruv Jurel caught by substitute Rehan Ahmed at midwicket. Hardik Pandya also fell cheaply with a sharp delivery by Jamie Overton to leave India in trouble. The explosive left-handed batter looked impressive reaching fifty off just 39 deliveries.
Washington
Sundar and Tilak Varma steadied the innings for India taking singles and
keeping the strike rotating. Sundar changed the momentum of the innings with 18
runs off Mark Wood’s over in the 13th over. Carse got the wicket
dismissing Sundar shattering the stumps. Sundar and Tilak added 38 runs for the
6th wicket.
Axar Patel
also fell cheaply trying to hit a big shot caught by Duckett at deep midwicket.
Tilak Varma and Arshdeep Singh scored 19 runs changing momentum for India.
After the dismissal of Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi hit 2 important boundaries.
Tilak Varma looked impressive, taking on most of the strike.
Tilak Varma
hit the winning runs to help India register a thrilling 2-wicket win with 4
balls to spare. It was a brilliant knock taking the hosts over the line.
For his
superb unbeaten knock of 72, Tilak Varma was named the player of the match
award. India takes a 2-0 lead in the 5-match T20I series. The 3rd
match of the series will be played at Niranjan Shah Stadium, Rajkot on 28th
January 2025.

in 20 overs (Buttler 45, Carse 31, Axar Patel 2/32, Varun Chakvarthy 2/38) by 2
wickets.
