Ind vs Eng 3rd T20I: England Stay Alive In The Series With An Impressive Win

 

The visitors showed their fighting spirit as they registered an impressive win in the 3rd T20I match against India played at Nirajan Shah Stadium, Rajkot on 28th January 2025.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and decided to field first. Mohammad Shami returned to playing XI after a gap of 436 days replacing Arshdeep Singh. Hardik Pandya provided an early breakthrough dismissing Phil Salt with an easy catch to Suryakumar Yadav at covers.

Ben Duckett showed intent with attacking shots including 3 boundaries in succession against Hardik Pandya. He made the batting look easy keeping the scoreboard ticking with boundaries and sixes. At the end of the first six overs, England scored 52 for 1.

After the field restrictions, Duckett and Buttler kept the scoreboard ticking. Varun Chakvarthy broke massive partnership dismissing Jos Buttler with a review. The umpire did not call out; on review it was overturned to out as it hit the gloves. Buttler and Duckett added 76 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Duckett looked impressive completing his half-century of 26 deliveries. Axar Patel dismissed well-set Duckett trying to hit a big shot caught by Abhishek Sharma at deep midwicket. Liam Livingstone looked impressive with his attacking shots against the spinners.

The Indian spinners rattled the England batting line-up. Ravi Bishnoi struck to dismiss Harry Brook taking an inside edge onto the stumps. Varun Chakvarthy got wickets of successive deliveries dismissing Jamie Smith with a lovely catch by Jurel and then Jamie Overton to leave England in trouble.

Chakravarthy stole the show with wickets from Brydon Carse and Jofra Archer in the same over to grab his 5th wicket. Liam Livingstone blasted 3 sixes against Ravi Bishnoi to provide some impetus. Hardik Pandya dismissed Livingstone with simple by Jurel at long-on. Mark Wood & Adil Rashid provided some valuable runs in the end to help England post 171 for 9 in 20 overs. Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid & Mark Wood put on 44 runs. Varun Chakvarthy took 5 for 24 in 4 overs.

Indian Batters Struggled

Chasing down 172 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for the hosts as Sanju Samson fell cheaply with a short delivery caught by Adil Rashid at mid-on. Abhishek Sharma looked impressive playing attacking shots before the stunning catch by Jofra Archer ended his innings.

The pitch at Rajkot helped the bowlers which made the timing tough for the batters. Mark Wood struck to dismiss Suryakumar Yadav. At the end of the first six overs, India scored 51 for 3.

Adil Rashid produced a peach of a delivery to dismiss inform Tilak Varma leaving India in trouble. After struggling, Washington Sundar departed caught by Buttler. With the asking run rate climbing, Hardik Pandya hit some lovely shots giving some hopes of winning.

Axar Patel’s innings ended as the shot went straight to short third man. Hardik Pandya and Axar added 38 runs for the 6th wicket. It was a tall ask for the Indian team as the last hope Hardik went caught by Buttler at long-off. The Indian team posted 145 for 9 in 20 overs.

For his figures of 5 for 24 in 4 overs, Varun Chakvarthy was named the player of the match award. India still has a 2-1 lead in the series. The fourth match will be played at MCA Stadium, Pune on 31st January.

England 172 for 9 in 20 overs (Duckett 51, Liam Livingstone 43, Varun Chakvarthy 5/24) beat India 145 for 9 in 20 overs (Hardik Pandya 40, Jamie Overton 3/24) by 26 runs.
