Under 19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 SF 1: South Africa Stun Australia To Reach Finals
South Africa
produced a superb performance to defeat Australia in the first semi-finals of
the Under 19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 played at Bayumeas Oval, Kuala Lumpur
on 31st January.
Australian
captain Lucy Hamilton won the toss and decided to bat first. It was not an
ideal start for Australia as Ines McKeon was dismissed off the very ball of the
match by Nini. South African team was very fortunate as Lyons got run out hitting
Nini’s hand on the non-striker end. Lucy Hamilton looked impressive with some
lovely shots keeping the scoreboard ticking. South African captain Kayla
Reyneke got rid of Australian captain Hamilton in front of the stumps.
Australian women ended the first six overs at 30 for 3.
After the
field restrictions, Eleanor Larosa struggled against the South African spinners.
A stunning return catch by Naidu ended the innings for Larosa. The Australian
batters struggled to hit boundaries against the top-quality bowling of South
Africa.
Nzuza took
another stunning catch to dismiss Hasrat Gill leaving the Australian in
trouble. Van Wyk dismissed dangerous Caoimhe Bray with another sharp return
catch. Van Wyk struck twice dismissing Chole Ainsworth and Lily Bassingnthwaite.
Ellse Brisco provided impetus with some lusty hitting putting pressure on the
South African bowling. It was a disciplined bowling performance by the South
African team restricting Australia to just 105 for 8 in 20 overs. Van Wyk ended with figures of 4 for 17 in 3
overs.
Chasing
down 106 runs to win, Jemma Botha started off brightly with attacking shots
putting pressure on the Australian bowlers. Ainsworth got the breakthrough
dismissing Simones Laurens with a peach of a delivery. Botha continued to score
runs quickly putting enough pressure on the opponent bowlers. Hasrat Gill
struck after being hit for a six getting rid of Fay Cowling at slips.
Bootha put
enough pressure on the Australian bowlers with aggressive shots. Kayla Reyneke also
provided great support to Bootha. At the end of the first six overs, the South
African team raced away to 50 for 2.
Lucy
Hamilton got the big wicket of Jemma Bootha with a good catch by Morton. Karabo
Meso and Reyneke kept calm taking singles and hitting boundaries with ease. A Superb
running catch by Lily at deep square leg got rid of Meso. Meso and Reyneke
added 38 runs for the 4th wicket.
Reyneke could
not take the South African team to the finishing line with another lovely catch
by Bray. Mieke De Voorst and Naidu struggled but eventually won the match by 5
wickets with 11 balls to spare.

Under 19 106 for 5 in 18.1 overs (Jemma Bootha 37, Lucy Hamilton 2/17, Hasrat
Gill 2/20) beat Australia Under 19 105 for 8 in 20 overs (Caoimhe Bray 36, Ashleigh
Van Wyk 4/17) by 5 wickets.
For her 4
for 17 in 3 overs, Ashleigh Van Wyk was named the player of the match award.
South African women’s entered the finals of the Under 19 Women’s World Cup.
They will face the winner of India or England.
