Under 19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025: Indian Opener Creates History
It was a
historic moment as explosive Indian opener Gongadi Trisha became the first
player to score a century in Under 19 Women’s T20 history. She achieved this
remarkable during the final Super Six match against Scotland played at Bayumeas
Oval, Kuala Lumpur on 28th January 2025.
After being
asked to bat first by the Scotland captain, Niamh Muir, it was carnage by
Gongadi Trisha right from the word go putting enough pressure on the Scottish
bowlers. She played attacking shots keeping momentum going by hitting
boundaries with ease. At the end of the first six overs, Indian openers Trisha
and Kamalini raced away to 67 for 0.
Trisha
reached her fifty off just 27 deliveries making life tough for Scotland
bowlers. After completing a well-deserved half-century, Gongadi Trisha continued
to hit boundaries and keep the scoreboard ticking. Kamalini also completed her
half-century ensuring the Indian team put on a record partnership of 147 runs
for the opening wicket.
Gongadi
Trisha looked in sublime touch hitting boundaries with ease. She timed the ball
brilliantly, not allowing any chances for Scotland bowlers. Trisha achieved the
milestone of scoring a century off 53 deliveries with a single. It was a superb
batting performance by Trisha remaining not out on 110 off 59 balls with 13
fours and 4 sixes. On the other hand, Sanika Chalke looked impressive putting
on 61 runs for the 2nd wicket. Indian women’s team posted 208 for 1
in 20 overs.
The
previous best individual score in the Under 19 Women’s T20 World Cup was by
Shweta Sehrawat. She scored 92 not out against hosts during the inaugural edition
of this tournament played in South Africa in 2023.
Indian bowlers
shined
It was a
ruthless display of bowling by the Indian bowlers. They never allowed any
chances to Scotland batters. The left-arm spin duo of Vaishnavi Sharma and Aayushi
Shukla put on a superb bowling display.
Aayushi Shukla
ended with figures of 4 for 8 in 3 overs. Vaishnavi Sharma also impressed with
her bowling with 3 for 5. Gongadi Trisha contributed with the ball picking 3
for 6 in 2 overs. Indian team bundled out Scotland for just 58 in 14 overs. They
continued their dominating form with a resounding 150-run victory. For her
all-round performance, Gongadi Trisha was named the player of the match award.
With this
win, they are almost confirmed top spot of Group 1 and will likely face England
in the semi-finals on 31st January.
