Under 19 Women’s World Cup 2025: Indian Team Enters Semi-Final
The Indian
Women’s Under 19 team proved too strong for the Bangladesh team in their first Group
1 Super Six match played at Bayumeas Oval, Kuala Lumpur on 25th January
2025.
After the
first match between Scotland and Sri Lanka was washed out due to rain, the
second encounter was delayed because of a wet outfield. Indian captain Nikki
Prasad won the toss and decided to field first on conditions helping the
bowlers. The Indian pace duo of Joshita and Shabnim Shakil rattled the Bangladesh
batting line-up not allowing them to score runs easily.
It was a disciplined
bowling effort by the Indian bowlers as they gave just 16 runs in the first six
overs, picking 3 wickets also putting enough pressure on Bangladesh batters. Vaishnavi
Sharma also joined the party dismissing Sumaiya Akter keeping the momentum for
India. Jannatul Maoua and captain Sumaiya Akther put on a valuable 31- run
partnership for the 7th wicket. Despite their efforts, Bangladesh
batters could only post just 64 for 8 in 20 overs. It was a great bowling
effort by the Indian bowlers. Vaishnavi Sharma was the pick of bowlers with 3
for 15 in 4 overs, Shabnim Shakil, Joshita & Gongadi Trisha took 1 wicket
while 2 were run outs.
Gongadi
Trisha Did The Job For India
Chasing a
modest total of 65 runs to win, Gongadi Trisha showed intent right from the word
go putting pressure on Bangladeshi bowlers. G Kamini was dismissed cheaply for
just 3 runs. Gongadi Trisha looked in sublime touch hitting boundaries with
ease keeping the momentum going for the Indian team. The Indian team raced away
to 50 for the loss of 1 wicket at the end of the first six overs.
Right
before the winning momentum, Trisha was caught by Nishi Akter Nishi at the boundary.
Trisha scored 40 off just 31 deliveries with 8 boundaries. Trisha and Sanika
added 38 runs for the 2nd wicket. The Indian team registered a
dominating 8-wicket win with 77 balls to spare.
With this
win, the Indian team progressed into the semi-finals of the Under 19 Women’s World
Cup 2025.
For her
figures of 3 for 15 in 4 overs, Vaishnavi Sharma was named the player of the
match. They will now play Scotland in their final Super Six game on 28th
January 2025.

Under 19 Women’s 66 for 2 in 7.1 overs (Gongadi Trisha 40, Habiba Pinky 1/15)
beat Bangladesh Under 19 Women’s 64 for 8 in 20 overs (Sumaiya Akther 21*,
Vaishnavi Sharma 3/15) by 8 wickets.
