Under 19 Women’s World Cup 2025: Vaishnavi Sharma Picks First Hattrick Of This Tournament

 

The defending Champions India registered a resounding win over hosts Malaysia in their second Group A game at Bayumeas Oval, Pandamaran, Kuala Lumpur on 21st January 2025.

After registering a 9-wicket win in the first game against West Indies, Indian captain Nikki Prasad won the toss and decided to field first. It was a dominating bowling performance by Indian bowlers as they bundled out the hosts Malaysia for a mere total of 31 runs.

Making her debut, Vaishnavi Sharma looked impressive keeping things tight and not allowing Malaysian batters to score runs easily. Sharma picked up her first wicket dismissing captain Nur Diana Syuhada. She was spot on with her line and lengths not allowing any breather.

Vaishnavi Sharma took wickets of Nur Ain Binti Roslan, Nur Isma Diana Binti Mohammed Daniel &Siti Nazwah to pick the first hat-trick of the Under 19 Women’s World Cup 2025. Roslan and Daniel were dismissed as LBW while Nazwah stumps were castled. It was an impressive bowling effort by Vaishnavi Sharma ending with figures of 5 for 5 in 4 overs. Aayushi Shukla also looked impressive grabbing 3 for 8 in 3.3 overs.

Indian Batters Chased Down The Target Quickly

Chasing down a paltry total of 32 runs to win, Gongadi Trisha looked in aggressive touch remaining not out on 27 off 12 deliveries with 5 boundaries. The Indian team chased down this target in just 2.5 overs.

With this massive win, the Indian women’s team climbed to the top of the points table. In the first match of the day, Sri Lanka registered a thumping 81 runs. It was a superb bowling effort by the Indian bowlers so far bundling out West Indies for 44 in 13.2 overs and then chasing down the target in 4.2 overs.

The Indian women’s team will play their last league match against Sri Lanka on 23rd January 2025.
