Ranji Trophy 2024/25 Final Day 2: Honors Even
The second day of the finals between Vidarbha and Kerala saw honors even played at VCA Stadium, Jamtha on 27th February 2025.
Starting on the overnight score of 254 for 4, Danish Malewar
continued from where he left from day 1 showing intent against Kerala bowlers.
Yash Thakur also looked composed with his defense and hit lovely shots. Malewar
reached his 150 off 273 deliveries.
M Nideesh produced a peach to dismiss Malewar. The ball came
in going through bat and pad ending a sensational knock. Malewar and Yash Thakur
added 51 runs for the 5th wicket. Basil Thampi got rid of nightwatchman
Yash Thakur. Kerala took 3rd wicket this session dismissing inform
Yash Rathod with a good catch by Rohan Kunnumal leaving Vidarbha in some
trouble.
Akshay Karnewar and Akshay Wadekar steadied the ship for
Vidarbha with an attacking approach. A stunning catch by Rohan Kunnumal ended Karnewar's innings. Karnewar and Wadekar put on 36 runs for the 8th wicket. Eden
Tom Apple struck to dismiss Akshay Wadekar leading Kerala’s comeback.
Nachiket Bhute showed intent with some lusty blows putting
pressure on Kerala bowlers. Yash Dubey also joined the party rotating the
strike to keep the scoreboard ticking. The lunch was extended to half an hour
because Kerala bowlers could not pick the final wicket. Vidarbha went into the
lunch break at 373 for 9.
After the lunch break, Nideesh eventually got the final
wicket dismissing Bhute by providing a simple catch to Mohammed Azharudden. Bhute
and Yash Dubey added 44 runs for the final wicket.
Darshan Nalkande got rid of Rohan Kunnumal with a brilliant
yorker in the first over. Akshay Chandran looked in good touch showing intent
before Nalkande got rid of Chandran taking an inside edge onto the stumps
leaving Kerala in trouble.
Aditya Sarwate played with aggressive intent while Ahammed
Imran was given a reprieve as Taide dropped a simple chance. Both Kerala
batters ensured that Kerala ended the 2nd session at 57 for 2.
The third session began well for Kerala with Sarwate and
Imran keeping the scoreboard ticking taking singles and hitting boundaries
easily. Sarwate kept his composure reaching fifty off 90 deliveries. Vidarbha got
the breakthrough as Yash Thakur delivered the short ball plan to dismiss Imran
caught by Mokhade. Sarwate and Imran added 93 runs for the 3rd
wicket.
Kerala captain Sachin Baby looked confident after surviving a close shout. Baby and Sarwate ensured that Kerala ended the 2nd day
on 131 for 3.
