WPL 2025 Match 4: RCB beat DC to register 2nd successive win.

 

The defending Champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru registered a dominating win over Delhi Capitals in match number 4 of WPL 2025 played at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara on 17th February.

RCB captain Smriti Mandhana won the toss and decided to field first. Renuka Singh struck in the first over itself dismissing dangerous Shafali Varma providing a simple catch to Mandhana at mid-off. Jemimah Rodrigues showed intent by putting pressure on RCB bowlers. On the other hand, Meg Lanning struggled with timing.

Rodrigues showed intent to keep the scoreboard ticking. At the end of the first six overs, Delhi Capitals scored 55 for 1. Wareham got the big wicket of Rodrigues as Richa Ghosh produced a superb piece of stumping. Rodrigues and Lanning added 59 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Kim Garth struck in the next over with a good sharp bouncer dismissing Lanning as Ellyse Perry took an easy catch. Annabel Sutherland and Marizanne Kapp provided some resistance for Delhi Capitals. Renuka Singh got the massive wicket of Sutherland providing an easy catch to Mandhana at covers.

Ekta Bisht was included in the playing XI replacing Prema Rawat struggled initially before getting rid of Jess Jonassen with a simple catch to Kanika Ahuja. Kapp was given a reprieve as Kanika Ahuja dropped a sitter. Ekta Bisht got her 2nd wicket dismissing Kapp by providing an easy catch to Dani Wyatt at long-off.

Sarah Bryce and Shikha Pandey tried to steady the ship. Wareham dismissed Bryce with a simple stumping by Ghosh. Wareham struck again in the same over getting rid of Radha Yadav with a return catch.

Renuka Singh got her 3rd wicket dismissing Shikha Pandey with an easy catch to Ekta Bisht. Kim Garth ended the innings by getting rid of Arundhati Reddy bundling out Delhi Capitals for 141 in 19.3 overs. Renuka Singh and Wareham took 3 wickets each for RCB while Garth and Ekta Bisht grabbed 2 wickets each.

Smriti Mandhana showed her class

Chasing down a modest total of 142 runs to win, Smriti Mandhana showed intent right from the word go putting pressure on Delhi Capitals bowlers with aggressive shots. Dani Wyatt also looked impressive, not allowing any of them to settle. At the end of the first six overs, RCB openers raced away to 57 for 0.

After the field restrictions, Mandhana kept the momentum going along with Wyatt. RCB captain looked in sublime touch reaching her fifty off just 27 deliveries. RCB openers made batting easy. Reddy eventually got the breakthrough dismissing Wyatt with an easy catch to Rodrigues.

Mandhana showed her class against the pacers and spinners. Ellyse Perry kept calm taking singles and giving strike to RCB captain.

Mandhana’s brilliant innings ended trying to finish the match providing an easy catch to Reddy at short third man.  Richa Ghosh smashed a six helping RCB register an 8-wicket win with 22 balls to spare.

RCB 146 for 2 in 16.2 overs (Smriti Mandhana 81, Shikha Pandey 1/27) beat DC 141 in 19.3 overs (Renuka Singh 3/23, Rodrigues 34) by 8 wickets.

For her figures of 3 for 23 in 4 overs, Renuka Singh was named the player of the match award.
