IPL 2025 Day 2: SRH & CSK Register Wins

 

The second day of the 2025 IPL season saw two contrasting matches, such as Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings registered wins on 23rd March 2025.

SRH vs RR (Hyderabad).

RR acting captain Riyan Parag won the toss and decided to field first at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. SRH openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head showed intent right from the word go putting pressure. Theekshana got the breakthrough for RR getting rid of Abhishek with a sharp catch by Jaiswal. Abhishek and Head put on 45 runs for the opening wicket in quick time.

Ishan Kishan continued the momentum along with Head smashing the RR bowlers all over the park. At the end of the first six overs, SRH raced away to 94 for 1. Head maintained the momentum, reaching his fifty off just 21 deliveries keeping momentum going for SRH. Tushar Deshpande eventually struck getting rid of Head with a lovely catch by Hetymer at mid-off. Head and Kishan added 85 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Nitish Kumar Reddy joined the party putting RR bowlers under immense pressure. On the other hand, Kishan maintained momentum, reaching fifty off just 25 deliveries. Reddy and Kishan displayed great hitting not allowing any sniff to RR bowlers. Theekshana made the breakthrough dismissing Nitish with a good catch by Jaiswal at deep midwicket. Reddy and Kishan added 72 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Klassen and Kishan displayed power-hitting smashing Jofra Archer keeping the momentum going for SRH. Sandeep Sharma grabbed an important scalp dismissing Klassen caught by Parag at long-on. Klassen and Kishan added 56 runs for the 4th wicket.

Ishan Kishan completed his maiden IPL century off 45 deliveries. Deshpande struck twice in the last over getting the wickets of Aniket Verma and Abhinav Manohar. It was a superb batting display as SRH posted 286 for 6 in 20 overs.

Sanju Samson came as an impact player replacing Farooqi. Samson showed intent right from the word go putting pressure with aggressive shots. Anureet Singh dismissed Jaiswal & Riyan Parag in the same over to change the momentum. Shami got rid of Nitish Rana to keep RR under pressure.

Samson & Dhruv Jurel displayed attacking shots trying to keep the required run rate under check. Both batters made the batting look easy on a placid Hyderabad pitch. Samson completed his fifty of 26 deliveries while Jurel reached the half-century off 28 deliveries. Harshal Patel eventually struck getting rid of Samson with a lovely slower delivery. Samson and Jurel added 111 runs for the 4th wicket.

Shubham Dubey & Shimron Hetymer provided some entertainment to the crowd with lusty hitting, but it was not enough for RR to chase down this mountain of total. Dubey and Hetymer put on an unbeaten 80 runs for the 7th wicket. RR posted 242 for 6 in 20 overs.

For his unbeaten 106 off 47 deliveries, Ishan Kishan was named the player of the match award.

SRH 286 for 6 in 20 overs (Ishan Kishan 106*, Travis Head 67, Tushar Deshpande 3/44) beat RR 242 for 6 in 20 overs (Dhruv Jurel 70, Samson 66, Harshal Patel 2/34, Simarjeet Singh 2/46) by 44 runs.

 

CSK vs MI (MA Chidrabam Stadium, Chennai).

CSK started the season with a 4-wicket win over arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at M A Chidrabam Stadium, Chennai.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and decided to field first. Khaleel Ahmed struck early dismissing Rohit Sharma & Ryan Rickleton cheaply. Suryakumar Yadav & Tilak Varma steadied the ship putting pressure on CSK bowlers. MI ended the first six overs at 52 for 3.

A quick stumping by MS Dhoni ended the innings for Suryakumar Yadav. Surya & Tilak added 51 runs for the 4th wicket. Noor Ahmad produced the magical spell getting wickets of Surya, Robin Minz, Tilak Varma & Naman Dhir to stall the progress of MI batting. Deepak Chahar provided some impetus hitting some lusty hits to help Mumbai Indians post 155 for 9 in 20 overs.

After the early loss of Tripathi’s wicket, CSK captain Gaikwad showed intent right from the word go putting pressure on MI bowling. On the other hand, Rachin also looked impressive as CSK made 62 for 1 at the end of the first six overs.

Gaikwad made an impression, making fifty off just 22 deliveries. Vignesh Puthur, coming as an impact player replacing Rohit Sharma, showed his skills by getting rid of Gaikwad, Shivam Dube & Deepak Hooda. Gaikwad & Rachin added 67 runs for the 2nd wicket.

With things looking tricky for CSK, Rachin Ravindra showed his batting skills while Ravindra Jadeja gave good support to him. Ravindra completed fifty of 42 deliveries to keep CSK on course. Jadeja & Rachin added 36 runs for the 6th wicket.

Ravindra hit the winning run with a six as CSK won the match with 4 wickets with 5 balls to spare. For his figures of 4 for 18 in 4 overs, Noor Ahmad was named the player of the match award.

CSK 158 for 6 in 19.1 overs (Rachin Ravindra 65*, Gaikwad 53, Vignesh Puthur 3/32) beat MI 155 for 9 in 20 overs (Tilak Varma 31, Noor Ahmad 4/18, Khaleel Ahmed 3/29) by 4 wickets.
