IPL 2025 Match 1: RCB Starts The Season With A Bang

 

Royal Challengers Bengaluru began the 18th season with a massive win over defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 22nd March 2025.

RCB captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and decided to field first. Josh Hazlewood got off to a perfect start getting rid of Quinton de Kock after Suyash Sharma dropped a sitter. After an initial struggle, Rahane and Sunil Narine showed intent by putting pressure on RCB bowlers including Rasikh Dar and Krunal Pandya. At the end of the first six overs, KKR raced away to 60 for 1. Soon after, the first timeout was taken.

After the timeout, Rahane and Narine put enough pressure on RCB bowlers not allowing them to settle, keeping the momentum going for KKR. Rasikh Dar got the massive scalp of Sunil Narine with a good catch by Jitesh Sharma. Rahane and Narine added 103 runs for the 2nd wicket. Rahane looked impressive, reaching fifty off just 25 deliveries.

Krunal Pandya got rid of KKR captain Rahane providing a simple catch to Rasikh Dar at deep square leg. Krunal delivered the goods by dismissing Venkatesh Iyer taking an inside edge onto the stumps bringing back RCB into the game.

Krunal got his third wicket dismissing Rinku Singh with a lovely delivery to stall the progress of the KKR innings. After being smashed in the first 3 overs, Suyash Sharma produced magic dismissing Andre Russell's shattering stumps. At the end of the second timeout, KKR ended at 150 for 6.

Yash Dayal bowled a superb 19th over giving away just 4 runs & picking the wicket of Angriksh Raghuvanshi. It was a tremendous comeback by RCB bowlers in the last 10 overs to restrict KKR to 174 for 8 in 20 overs. Krunal Pandya, Josh Hazlewood, Suyash Sharma & Yash Dayal ensured a strong comeback.

Phil Salt & Virat Kohli took KKR bowlers to the cleaners.

Chasing down 175 runs to win, Phil Salt showed intent right from the word go against the impact player Vaibhav Arora. He looked in sublime touch putting enough pressure on KKR bowlers while Virat Kohli also showed intent not allowing any hopes for KKR bowlers.

 Salt smashed Varun Chakvarthy for 21 runs in his first over putting consistent pressure on KKR bowlers. At the end of the first six overs, RCB raced away to 80 for 0. The first timeout was taken.

Salt looked in great touch reaching fifty off just 25 deliveries. Varun Chakravarthy struck for KKR dismissing Salt with a good catch by Spencer Johnson at short third man. Salt and Kohli added 95 runs for the opening wicket.

Devdutt Paddikal came to bat at number 3 as the impact sub. On the other hand, Kohli made the batting look easy keeping scoreboard ticking. Paddikal could not convert his start caught by Ramandeep Singh at deep midwicket.

Playing his 400th T20 match, Kohli completed his fifty off 30 deliveries. Rajat Patidar showed his class by taking on KKR bowlers. He was lethal with his strokes keeping momentum going for RCB. Patidar was dismissed at deep midwicket by Ramandeep Singh. Patidar and Kohli added 44 runs for the 3rd wicket. Soon after the 3rd wicket, the second timeout was taken.

Liam Livingstone did the job smashing 2 boundaries and 1 six against Vaibhav Arora helping RCB register a 7 wicket win with 22 balls to spare.

For his 3 for 29 in 4 overs, Krunal Pandya was named the player of the match award.

RCB 177 for 3 in 16.2 overs (Kohli 59*, Salt 56, Sunil Narine 1/27) beat KKR 174 for 8 in 20 overs (Rahane 56, Narine 44, Krunal Pandya 3/29, Hazlewood 2/22) by 7 wickets.

 


 







RCB beat KKR by 7 wickets in the opening match of IPL 2025.
