IPL 2025 Match 4: Ashutosh Sharma’s Superb Knock

 

Delhi Capitals beat Lucknow Super Giants in a thrilling contest played at ACA- VDCA Stadium, Vizag on 24th March 2025.

Chasing 210 runs to win, Delhi Capitals looked down and out losing 5 quick wickets for only 65 runs. Ashutosh Sharma came as an impact player replacing Mukesh Kumar. It was a terrible start for DC as they lost 2 wickets of Jake Fraser McGurk and Abhishek Porel.

Sameer Rizvi & captain Axar Patel could not contribute much. Ashutosh Sharma looked cautious initially going at run a ball.  Stubbs put pressure on LSG bowling with clean hitting before M Siddharth got rid of him. Delhi Capitals looked in serious trouble at 113 for 6.

Ashutosh Sharma came to the party with clean hitting along with Vipraj Nigam. Nigam displayed attacking skills keeping momentum going. Right after the second timeout, Delhi Capitals lost the big wicket of Nigam as Digvesh Rathi struck to bring back LSG into the game. Ashutosh & Nigam added 55 runs for the 7th wicket.

Delhi Capitals looked in deep trouble again as they lost the 8th wicket of Mitchell Starc. Ashutosh Sharma came to the party with lusty hits under pressure against Ravi Bishnoi to change the momentum. Sharma kept calm, reaching fifty off 28 deliveries.

With 6 runs required off the final over, Pant missed a stumping chance to get rid of Mohit Sharma. Ashutosh Sharma hit the winning run with a straight six as Delhi Capitals won the match by just 1 wicket with 3 balls to spare.

It was a remarkable knock by Ashutosh Sharma knock under immense pressure. Ashutosh Sharma remained unbeaten on 66 off 31 deliveries with 5 fours and 5 sixes with a stunning strike rate of 212.90. For his match-winning knock, Ashutosh Sharma was named the player of the match.

Delhi Capitals bowlers made a superb comeback

DC captain Axar Patel won the toss and decided to field first. LSG openers Mitchell Marsh & Aiden Markram put enough pressure on DC bowlers right from the word go.

The leg-spinner Nigam got the breakthrough dismissing Aiden Markram with a simple catch to Starc at long-off. Delhi Capitals bowlers looked out of sorts against Mitchell Marsh & Nicolas Pooran. After the dropped catch of Pooran, Pooran and Marsh displayed power-hitting not allowing any chances to DC bowlers.

Delhi Capitals got the boost as Mukesh Kumar dismissed Mitchell Marsh with a simple catch to Stubbs at long-on. Marsh and Pooran added 87 runs for the 2nd wicket. Pooran displayed superb hitting smashing 28 runs off Stubbs over. Kuldeep Yadav got rid of DC captain Pant to put LSG on the backfoot.

Mitchell Starc got rid of the dangerous Pooran to change the momentum in favor of DC. Delhi Capitals bowlers made a strong comeback picking up wickets at regular intervals. Despite Miller’s 2 sixes in the final over, DC restricted LSG to 209 for 8.

Ashutosh Sharma was named the player of the match award for his unbeaten 66 off 31 deliveries.

DC 211 for 9 in 19.3 overs (Ashutosh Sharma 66*, Vipraj Nigam 39, Shardul Thakur 2/19) beat LSG 209 for 8 in 20 overs ( Pooran 75, Mitchell Marsh 72, Mitchell Starc 3/42, Kuldeep Yadav 2/20) by 1 wicket.

 


 

 




Ashutosh Sharma put on a brilliant display remaining not out on 66 helping DC to a thrilling 1-wicket win.
