thanks to contributions by Shreyas Iyer, Priyansh Arya & Shashank Singh.
Punjab King bowlers held onto their nerves after the second timeout, winning
the match by 11 runs and registering 2 important points.
Here we
look at the 3 top performers for Punjab Kings in their thrilling 11-run over
Gujarat Titans in match 5 of IPL 2025.
1. Shreyas Iyer.
Shreyas
Iyer looked in sublime form right from the word go. He put enough pressure on
Gujarat Titans bowlers against the pacers and spinners.
PBKS
captain Shreyas displayed an attacking approach not allowing any GT bowlers to
settle. He made the batting look easy on a true batting wicket. He reached his
fifty off just 27 deliveries to keep the momentum going. Despite losing Azamatullah
Omarzai, Glenn Maxwell & Marcus Stoinis cheaply, Shreyas Iyer maintained
the momentum with lusty hits against Prasidh Krishna.
Iyer
displayed attacking skills against Rashid Khan & Sai Kishore. He did not
get the strike in the final over as Shashank Singh smashed Siraj. Shreyas
remained unbeaten on 97 off 42 deliveries with 5 four & 9 sixes with a
stunning strike rate of 230.95. For his captains’ knock, Shreyas Iyer was named
the player of the match.
2. Priyansh Arya
Playing his
first match in IPL history, the stylish left-handed opener Priyansh Arya showed
intent right from the word go putting enough pressure on Gujarat Titans
bowlers. He was given a reprieve with a simple dropped chance.
Priyansh
displayed attacking skills against Rabada & Siraj hitting him for
boundaries. It was a superb batting effort as Punjab Kings ended the first six
overs with 73 for 1.
Right after
the field restrictions, Priyansh Arya got out to Rashid Khan. It was a
sensational knock by Priyansh with 47 off 23 deliveries including 7 fours and 2
sixes setting a strong platform for PBKS to post a massive total.
3. Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep
Singh had a decent outing for Punjab Kings with the ball. He gave away just 7
runs in his first two overs where other bowlers went for runs against Shubman
Gill and Sai Sudharsan.
Arshdeep Singh
provided the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Sai Sudharsan, changing the
momentum in favor of PBKS.
He showed
his class getting rid of Sherfane Rutherford in the final over. Arshdeep Singh
ended with figures of 2 for 36 in 4 overs.
Vijay Kumar
Vyshak delivered the goods for Punjab Kings. He came as an impact player by showing
his class with yorkers against Buttler & Sherfane Rutherford. It was a
dream bowling effort as he gave away just 28 runs in his 3 overs. His spell
ensured that Punjab Kings went on to win the match by a narrow margin.
Shreyas Iyer remained not out on 97 off 42 deliveries against Gujarat Titans.
