IPL 2025 Match 6: KKR Open Their Account
The
defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders showed their class with a dominating
win over Rajasthan Royals in match 6 of IPL 2025 played at Basapara Stadium, Guwahati
on 26th March.
KKR captain
Rahane won the toss and decided to field first. Sanju Samson & Yashasvi
Jaiswal opened the innings for RR. Both looked in good touch putting pressure
on KKR bowlers. Vaibhav Arora got the breakthrough dismissing Samson shattering
the stumps. Jaiswal and Samson put on 33 runs for the opening wicket.
Riyan Parag
looked impressive with his strokes along with Jaiswal. At the end of the first
six overs, RR ended at 54 for 1. Varun Chakvarthy got the breakthrough
dismissing Riyan Parag with a lovely catch by de Kock. Parag and Jaiswal added 34
runs for the 2nd wicket.
Moeen Ali
was included in the playing XI replacing Sunil Narine. Moeen dismissed Jaiswal providing
a simple catch to Harshit Rana at long-on. KKR spinners troubled the RR batters
by not allowing them to score runs easily. Varun struck again getting rid of
Hasranga. Moeen produced a magical delivery dismissing Nitish Rana leaving RR
in big trouble.
Shubham
Dubey came as an impact player but could not provide the big shots. Dhruv Jurel
looked impressive with his shots trying to post a decent total on a tough
batting wicket. Jofra Archer looked impressive with 2 lusty hits, before Spencer
Johnson knocked his stumps. It was a disciplined bowling effort by KKR bowlers
as they restricted RR to a modest total of 151 for 9. Varun Chakravarthy,
Vaibhav Arora, Harshit Rana & Moeen Ali took 2 wickets while Spencer
Johnson grabbed 1 wicket.
Quinton de
Kock stole the show for KKR
Chasing
down 152 runs to win, KKR got off to a steady start as Moeen Ali came to open
with de Kock. De Kock looked in a decent touch putting pressure on RR bowlers. At
the end of the first six overs, KKR ended at 40 for 0.
KKR lost
their first wicket as Moeen Ali was run out with a good piece of fielding by
Theekshana & gathered by Riyan Parag. De Kock looked in sublime touch
putting the RR bowlers under pressure. He survived an LBW call given out by the
umpire, and on review it was overturned to not out as it was missing leg stump.
De Kock
looked impressive reaching fifty off 36 deliveries to keep momentum going for
KKR. After the fall of Rahane’s wicket, impact player Angriksh Raghuvanshi
showed his skills by keeping the scoreboard ticking. De Kock looked in sublime
touch remaining not out on 97 off 61 deliveries with 8 fours and 6 sixes. The
stylish left-handed batter hit the winning runs with a six. KKR won the match easily
by 8 wickets with 15 balls to spare.
For his unbeaten
97 off 61 deliveries, Quinton de Kock was named the player of the match award.
KKR 153 for
2 in 17.3 overs (de Kock 97*, Hasranga 1/34) beat RR 151 for 9 in 20 overs ( Dhurv
Jurel 33, Jaiswal 29, Varun Chakvarthy 2/17, Moeen Ali 2/23) by 8 wickets.
