IPL 2025 Match 7: Lucknow Super Giants Stun SRH To Register First Points

 

After a narrow loss in the opening game against Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants proved their worth with a resounding win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on 27th March 2025.

LSG captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for the visitors as Shardul Thakur struck early dismissing Abhishek Sharma & Ishan Kishan off successive deliveries. Travis Head showed intent with aggressive shots, keeping the scoreboard ticking to make life tough for LSG bowlers. Travis was given a reprieve as Pooran dropped a simple chance.

Head kept the momentum going along with Nitish Kumar Reddy. At the end of the first six overs, SRH scored 62 for 2. After the first timeout, Prince Yadav got his maiden IPL wicket dismissing Head by shattering the stumps. Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy added 61 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Heinrich Klassen came to the crease and showed intent right from the word go along with Nitish Kumar Reddy. Prince Yadav had the presence of mind running out Klassen to stop the momentum for SRH. Klassen and Nitish Kumar Reddy added 34 runs for the 4th wicket.

Right after the second timeout, Ravi Bishnoi got the wicket of Nitish Kumar Reddy. Aniket Varma kept the momentum going for SRH hitting lusty sixes. Digvesh Rathi got the wicket, eventually getting rid of Varma caught by Miller. Aniket made a quickfire, 36, off 13 deliveries.

Shardul Thakur dismissed Manohar, caught by Abdul Samad. Pat Cummins looked in sublime form with 3 sixes changing the momentum. Avesh Khan struck getting rid of Cummins caught by Rathi at short third man. Thakur picked his fourth wicket dismissing Shami. It was a disciplined bowling effort by LSG bowlers as they restricted SRH to 190 for 9 in 20 overs.

Nicolas Pooran blew SRH bowlers

Chasing down 191 runs to win, LSG lost an early wicket of Aiden Markram. Nicolas Pooran looked in sublime touch right from the word go putting enough pressure on SRH bowlers. He never the SRH bowlers to settle with lusty hits keeping the scoreboard ticking. On the other hand, Mitchell Marsh put on an excellent display of batting, giving full support to Pooran.

At the end of the first six overs, Pooran & Mitchell Marsh ensured that LSG raced away to 77 for 1. Adam Zampa came as an impact sub for Travis Head. Pooran hammered SRH bowlers completing the fastest fifty this season so far off 18 deliveries. SRH captain Cummins struck getting rid of Pooran with a lovely delivery. Pooran & Mitchell Marsh added 116 runs for the 2nd wicket. The explosive left-handed batter smashed 6 fours and 6 sixes at a stunning strike rate of 269.23 

Mitchell Marsh came as an impact player, replacing Rathi reached his fifty-off 29 deliveries. Despite losing quick wickets of Marsh, Ayush Badoni & captain Pant, Abdul Samad & Miller ensured that LSG won the match easily. Lucknow Super Giants won the match comfortably by 5 wickets with 23 balls to spare.

For his match-winning spell of 4 for 34 in 4 overs, Shardul Thakur was named the player of the match award. With this win, LSG climbed to 2nd spot.

LSG 193 for 5 in 16.1 overs (Nicolas Pooran 70, Mitchell Marsh 52, Pat Cummins 2/29) beat SRH 190 for 9 in 20 overs (Travis Head 47, Aniket Varma 36, Shardul Thakur 4/34) by 5 wickets.

 


                                           Nicolas Pooran's 70 off 26 deliveries ensures that LSG chased down the target of 191 easily.
