Badminton Asia Championship 2025: Disappointing Day For Indian Shuttlers

 

The Indian shuttlers had a disappointing day with the likes of Kiran George, Pranshu Rajawat & PV Sindhu making it in the second round of the Badminton Asia Championship 2025 played at Ningbo, China on 9th April.

HS Prannoy opened the day for the Indian contingent. He suffered a three-game loss to Lu GZ of China. The first game saw Lu putting on an excellent display of badminton putting enough pressure on the Indian by winning the first set easily at 21-16. Prannoy made a strong comeback with a great display putting enough pressure on Lu winning the second game easily at 21-12.

The third game was a one-sided affair as Lu played attacking badminton winning with a commanding scoreline of 21-10.

Lakshya Sen’s poor form continued with a straight-game loss to Lee C-h of Chinese Taipei. The first game was a closely fought affair as Sen lost with a scoreline of 18-21. Sen looked out of sorts in the second game losing easily by 10-21.

There were some joys for men’s Indian shuttlers as Kiran George eased past D Panarin with a dominating scoreline of 21-9, 21-12. He will face Kulvant Vitisdarn of Thailand in the second round.

Pranshu Rajawat stunned the higher-ranked player from Thailand Kanthon Wangchareon in three games. The first game was a closely fought encounter as both players took alternate points before the Thai player won by 22-20.

Rajawat displayed attacking badminton in the next two games, winning with a scoreline of 21-12, 21-11 to move into the second round. He will face Kodai Naraoka of Japan.

The women’s section saw the likes of Anupama Upadhyaya, Malvika Bansod & Akarshi Kashyap losing their first-round matches. Anupama suffered a straight-game loss to Intanon of Thailand with a scoreline of 13-21, 14-21.

Akarshi Kashyap lost to Han Yue of China in two straight games with a scoreline of 13-21, 7-21.

Malvika Bansod also suffered a straight-game loss to Gao F J of China. It was a disappointing performance by Malvika with a scoreline of 14-21, 8-21.

PV Sindhu crossed the first-round barrier with a straight-game win over Wardoyo of Indonesia. The first game was a one-sided affair as Sindhu registered a 21-15 victory. It was a closely fought affair in the second game before the experienced shuttler won it by 21-19 to move into the second round. She will face Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.

4.      Lakshya Sen lost to Lee C-h (Men’s Singles)- 18-21, 10-21

5.      HS Prannoy lost to Lu GZ (Men’s Singles)- 16-21, 21-12, 10-21

6.      Anupama Upadhyaya lost to Intanon (Women’s Singles)- 13-21, 14-21

7.      Akarshi Kashyap lost to Han Yue (Women’s Singles)- 13-21, 7-21

8.      Malvika Bansod lost to Gao FJ (Women’s Singles)- 14-21, 8-21.
