IPL 2025 Match 14: Gujarat Titans Hands RCB Their First Defeat

Titans showed their skills with a dominating win over RCB played at M
Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on 2nd April 2025.
GT captain
Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to field first. It was an ideal start for
visitors as Arshad Khan got rid of Virat Kohli with a simple catch to Prasidh
Krishna at deep square leg. Mohammed Siraj delivered a lovely delivery getting
rid of Paddikal to leave RCB in trouble.
After being
smacked for a 105 m six, Siraj came back strongly to dismiss Phil Salt
shattering the stumps. Liam Livingstone struggled against disciplined GT bowling
while Rajat struggled. At the end of the first six overs, RCB ended at 38 for
3.
Soon after
the field restrictions, Rajat Patidar also perished trying to hit a big shot
leaving RCB in big trouble at 42 for 4. Jitesh Sharma looked in decent touch
keeping the scoreboard ticking. On the other hand, Livingstone played attacking
shots and went lucky with dropped chances.
Sai Kishore
got the breakthrough for GT getting rid of Jitesh Sharma with a good catch by
Rahul Tewaita at long-on. Livingstone and Jitesh added 52 runs for the 5th
wicket. Sai stuck again dismissing Krunal Pandya with a simple return catch to
leave RCB in trouble.
Livingstone
showed his attacking skills with 3 sixes in an over against Rashid Khan to
change the momentum. Tim David hammered the GT bowlers with lusty blows.
Livingstone reached the first fifty this season off 39 deliveries. Siraj got
rid of Livingstone with an easy catch to Buttler. Livingstone & David added
46 runs for the 7th wicket.
Tim David launched
lusty blows in the final over against Prasidh Krishna before the latter
shattered the stumps of David. RCB ended with a competitive total of 169 for 8
in 20 overs.
Jos Buttler
& Sai Sudharsan showed their class
Chasing
down 170 runs to win, Gujarat Titans got off to a cautious start with Sai Sudharsan
and Shubman Gill against disciplined bowling by Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar
Kumar. Sudharsan made the batting look easy keeping the momentum going for GT.
Bhuvneshwar
got the breakthrough getting rid of GT captain Gill with a stunning catch by
Livingstone at third man. Gill and Sudharsan added 32 runs for the opening
wicket. Jos Buttler struggled initially before showing intent against RCB
bowlers. At the end of the first six overs, GT scored 42 for 1.
Buttler and
Sai Sudharsan launched an attack on RCB bowlers. Both batters took the charge against
Rasikh Dar who came impact player for Paddikal. It was a superb batting display
by both keeping the scoreboard ticking.
Buttler
completed the first fifty this season off 31 deliveries to keep the momentum
going for GT. Josh Hazlewood eventually struck dismissing Sai with a simple
catch to Jitesh Sharma. Sai and Buttler added 75 runs for the 2nd
wicket.
Rutherford
looked impressive as an attack player keeping the momentum going for GT. Buttler
continued his assault with lusty hits not allowing any sniff. Rutherford hit
the winning runs with a six as GT won the match with 8 wickets with 13 balls to
spare. Buttler and Rutherford put on unbeaten 63 runs for the 3rd
wicket.
For his
figures of 3 for 19 in 4 overs, Mohammed Siraj was named the player of the
match award.
GT 170 for
2 in 17.5 overs (Buttler 73*, Sai 49, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 1/23) beat RCB 169 for
8 in 20 overs (Livingstone 54, Siraj 3/19, Sai Kishore 2/22) by 8 wickets.
