IPL 2025: Priyansh Arya Stole The Show

 

Punjab Kings registered their 3rd win of IPL 2025 with a thrilling 18-run win over Chennai Super Kings in a high-scoring thriller played at Mullanpur on 8th April.

PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bat first. Priyansh Arya showed intent right from the word go putting pressure on CSK bowlers. The hosts lost quick wickets of Prabhsimran Singh, Shreyas Iyer & Marcus Stoinis cheaply inside the first six overs.

Priyansh Arya looked in sublime touch smashing CSK bowlers all over the park keeping the momentum for PBKS. PBKS raced away to 75 for 3 at the end of the first six overs.

Priyansh displayed attacking strokes keeping the momentum going. He completed his fifty off just 19 deliveries. They lost two more quick wickets of Nehal Wadehra & Glenn Maxwell to leave the hosts in trouble. Priyansh showed his class with power-hitting taking on Noor Ahmad and R Ashwin. He was given a reprieve as Mukesh Chaudhary stepped on the boundary line while taking the catch.

Priyansh Arya smashed Pathirana for 3 successive sixes. He completed his maiden IPL century off 39 deliveries with a boundary. Priyansh was eventually caught by Vijay Shankar at long-on. Shashank Singh made the batting look easy with some lusty hits keeping the momentum going on for PBKS. Priyansh was dismissed for 103 off 42 deliveries with 7 boundaries and 9 sixes. Shashank and Priyansh added 71 runs for the 6th wicket.

Shashank Singh maintained momentum along with Marco Jansen. Both batters took on the CSK bowlers hitting them all over the park. Shashank and Marco Jansen displayed power-hitting that allowed PBKS to post 219 for 5. Shashank completed his last fifty-off delivery of the innings in 36 deliveries. Both batters put on unbeaten 65 runs for the 7th wicket.

Priyansh joins the list of elite batters to score the fastest centuries in IPL history. He displayed power-hitting that allowed PBKS laying a strong foundation for a big total.  

PBKS held onto their nerves despite shoddy catching

Punjab Kings won the match despite dropping dolly catches. Rachin Ravindra & Devon Conway began innings on a positive note putting pressure on PBKS bowlers. Glenn Maxwell got the big wicket dismissing Rachin Ravindra stumped. Rachin and Conway added 61 runs, laying a strong foundation.

Lockie Ferguson struck getting rid of CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad cheaply. It was a shoddy fielding effort as Chahal & Yash Thakur dropped easy catches. Shivam Dube & Conway tried to keep with the steep asking required run-rate.

Ferguson dropped another easy catch at a backward point of Shivam Dube. Ferguson got the important breakthrough by dismissing Shivam Dube. Dube & Conway added 89 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Devon Conway was retired out after struggling to score runs. MS Dhoni displayed power-hitting, but PBKS bowlers did a grand job with superb captaincy by Shreyas Iyer. PBKS won the match with 18 runs.

For his match-winning 103 off 42 deliveries, Priyansh Arya was awarded the player of the match.

PBKS 219 for 5 in 20 overs (Priyansh Arya 103, Shashank Singh 52*, Khaleel Ahmed 2/45, R Ashwin 2/48) beat CSK 201 for 5 in 20 overs (Conway 69 retired out, Shivam Dube 42, Lockie Ferguson 2/40) by 18 runs.
