Malaysia Masters 2025: Kidambi Srikanth Creates History
The 32-year-old
Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth reached the finals of the Super 500 Malaysia
Masters event played at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur on 24th May 2025.
Kidambi
Srikanth and Yushi Tanaka were unseeded in this tournament. The first game
began with Tanaka keeping the pressure on Srikanth with lovely smashes taking
4-1 lead initially. The Indian made a strong comeback showing glimpses of his
old best with lovely attacking shots. At the mid-game break, Tanaka had a 11-8
lead.
After the
break, Srikanth showed great defensive skills and also played aggressive badminton
to reduce the lead and then level the scores at 14-14. The match ebbed and
flowed before Srikanth won the first game comfortably by 21-18.
Tanaka
began the second game on a positive note taking 4-0 lead. Kidambi Srikanth looked
in deep trouble trailing with scoreline 3-9. It was an amazing performance by
the Indian putting pressure on the Japanese taking six successive points to
level the scores at 9-9. It was a closely fought affair with Srikanth taking a
slender 11-10 at the break.
After the
break, Srikanth continued to maintain the lead before Tanaka showed great
spirit to level the scores at 17-17. The match ebbed and flowed with both
players taking alternate points. Tanaka was not giving up before Srikanth won
the second game with scoreline of 24-22 to enter into the finals of Super 500
event.
Kidambi Srikanth
became the first Indian shuttler to reach the finals of BWF events in 2025.
This is an historic moment as he reached summit clash after a gap of 6 years.
He made it
into the main draw from the qualifying round. Srikanth will face the winner of
Li Shifeng or Kodai Naraoka of Japan. It was an amazing performance by star
Indian shuttler.
