Singapore Open 2025: Doubles Pairs enter into round 2

 

It was a good day for the Indian shuttlers as both men’s and women’s doubles pairing entered into the second of the Super 750 Singapore Open played on 28th May 2025.

The dynamic duo of Satwiksairaj RankiReddy and Chirag Shetty returned to action after long injury layoff. They defeated Malaysian pair of Choong HJ and M Haikal in two straight games. Satwik and Chirag struggled initially before coming onto their own putting the Malaysian pair under pressure. It was an impressive win by the duo winning with a scoreline of 21-16, 21-13. They will face Gutama and Isfahani of Indonesia.

The women’s doubles pair of Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand edged past Chang C-h and Yang C-t of Chinese pair in three thrilling games. It was a closely fought start in the first game before Jolly and Gayatri raced part to their opponent winning first game by 21-14.

The second game started on an even keel as both pairs took alternate points. It ebbed and flowed before Chang and Yang came back strongly with lovely attacking shots winning by 21-19 to force the match into the decider.

The third game was another closely fought affair with both pairs taking alternate points. After the break also, the match went down the wire as match was equal at 16-16. Jolly and Gayatri made sure that they held onto their nerves to win by 21-17 to move into the second round. They will face Jia XF and Zhang SX of China.

A Pramutesh and S Singh were given a walkover by Japanese pair of Matsuyama and C Shida.

The mixed doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor and Shivani Gadde defeated Chen Z y and Corbett of USA in two straight games. It was a closely fought affair, but Rohan and Shivani showed her experience to win by 21-17, 21-19 to move into second round. They will face second seeded Tang C M and Tse YS of Hong Kong.

Lakshya Sen poor form continued losing Lin C-y of Chinese Taipei in three games. Sen looked impressive in the first game keeping the pressure on Lin to win the first game by 21-15.

The second game looked tight for most parts of the game before Lin showed his class to win by 21-17. Lin dominated the third game before Lakshya decided to retire hurt with 7-15 down.

The women’s singles section saw Unnati Hooda went down to Wang ZY of China in three games. It was an impressive by the Indian keeping the pressure on Wang to win the first game easily by 21-13. Wang showed her class with some lovely badminton winning next two games with 21-9, 21-15 scoreline.

Anupama Upadhyay suffered first round loss to Sung S-y of Chinese Taipei. It was one-way traffic as Sung dominated the Indian winning with comfortable score of 21-12, 21-16.

2.      Tressa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand defeated Chang C-h and Yang C-t (Women’s Doubles)- 21-14, 19-21, 21-17

3.      Rohan Kapoor/Shivani Gadde beat Chen ZY and Corbett (Mixed Doubles)- 21-17, 21-19.

4.      A Pramutesh/S Singh walkover by Matsuyama/C Shida (Women’s Doubles)

5.       Lakshya Sen lost to Lin C-y (Men’s Singles)- 21-15, 17-21, 7-15 retired.

6.      Unnati Hooda lost to Wang Z Y (Women’s Singles)- 21-13, 9-21, 15-21

7.      Anupama Upadhyay lost to Sung S-y (Women’s Singles)- 12-21, 16-21.

 


 





Satwik/Chirag Shetty return to winning ways with a dominating win in the first round of Singapore Open 2025.
