Singapore Open 2025: Round 1 Results of Indian Shuttlers
The Indian
shuttlers had a disappointing day with only 2 of them progressing into the
second of the Super 750 Singapore Open 2025 played on 27th May.
PV Sindhu eased
past WY Zhang of Canada in two straight games. It was a dominating performance
by former World champion putting the opponent under immense pressure. She won
the match with a dominating scoreline of 21-14, 21-9 to move into the second
round. It will be tough ask as Sindhu will face Chen Yu Fei of China.
HS Prannoy
stuns Rasmus Gemke in three thrilling games. It was a close fought start in the
first before Prannoy showed domination putting pressure on the Danish. Prannoy
looked impressive with 17-10 lead before Gemke showed great attacking skills to
level the scores at 17-17. The Danish player put Prannoy under pressure winning
the first game by 21-19.
The second
game started well with both players taking alternate points. Gemke had 11-8
lead at the mid-game break. After the interval, Prannoy showed his skills with
smashes putting Danish under pressure. It was the Indian who won the second set
by 21-16.
It was
another closely fought start in the 3rd game before Prannoy
dominated the play. He produced some lovely smashes keeping Gemke under immense
pressure. The experienced Prannoy eventually won the deciding game by 21-14 to
move into the second round. He will face Christo Popov of France.
It was
curtains for other Indian male shuttlers as Pranshu Rajawat went down fighting
in three games to Kodai Naraoka. Rajawat won the first set comfortably by 21-14
before the Japanese showed skills to win next two games easily with scoreline
of 21-10, 21-14 to knock the Indian out.
Kiran
George also went in straight games to Weng Y of China. It was a closely fought
affair as Kiran looked strong to take the first game before Weng stole the show
winning the first game by 21-19. Kiran struggled as he committed lots of
unforced errors as Weng took the chances winning with 21-17 scoreline.
In the
women’s singles, Malvika Bansod went down in three games to Kathenong of
Thailand. Malvika started the first game with a commanding scoreline of 21-14.
The second game also looked bright for the youngster taking a commanding 15-10
lead before the Thai player showed her class winning the second game by 21-18. Malvika
struggled in the deciding game as Kathenong proved her worth winning with 21-11
scoreline.
Santosh
Ramraj also went tamely in straight games to Kim Ga Eun of South Korea. It was
a disappointing performance by Ramraj losing by 14-21, 8-21.
Anmol Kharb
showed some fight against Chen Yu Fei of China before losing in two straight
games. Kharb fought toe to toe with the experienced Chinese player before Chen experience
showed winning the first game easily by 21-11.
The second
game was a closely fought affair as Kharb showed great attacking skills putting
Chen under pressure. Both players fought for each point before Chen won with 24-22
scoreline.
Dhruv
Kapila/ Tanisha Crasto suffered a straight game loss to Cheng X and Zhang C.
The mixed doubles pairing of Kapila and Crasto gave fight in the first game
before losing by 18-21. The second game was a one-sided affair as the Indian pairing
struggled to lose with scoreline of 13-21.
