FIH Pro Hockey League 2024/25: India Loses To Netherlands
The Indian
men’s hockey team started the 2nd leg of the FIH Pro Hockey League
2024/25 with a narrow to Olympic Champions Netherlands played at Wagner
Stadium, Amsterdam on 7th June 2025.
India began
the first quarter with an attack right away putting pressure on Netherlands
defence. Both teams tried to score early goal, but defence looked strong not
allowing any chances. Indian team kept the possession, not able to go past
Netherlands defence. At the end of the first quarter, the scores remained 0-0.
Harmanpreet
Singh scored from India’s first penalty corner in the 19th minute
giving 1-0 lead. Soon after, Netherlands
Van Dam scored a superb field goal in 25th minute helping the hosts
level the scores at 1-1. Both teams showed their class, but unable to convert
into goals. India and Netherlands ended the first half with 1-1 scoreline.
The third
quarter saw both teams playing good hockey but unable to convert into goals. Netherlands
kept putting pressure on the Indian defence with aggressive moves. Despite
having attacking moves, Netherlands were not able to put pressure on Indian
defence. At the end of the third quarter, the scores remained 1-1.
Both
Netherlands and India struggled to make moves in the initial stages of the
fourth quarter. Van Dam showed his class with a power shot during 58th
minute to give Netherlands 2-1 lead. Indian team decided to move the goalkeeper
and have extra outfield player.
Despite
their efforts, Indian team started the European leg with a narrow 1-2 loss. India
slipped down to fourth in FIH Pro Hockey League points while Netherlands moved to
the top of the points table.
India will
face Netherlands in the 2nd match to be played on 9th
June 2025 at the same venue. Indian team would be happy with their performances
and would be looking to the same again with different result.
