FIH Pro Hockey League 2024/25: India Suffer Second Loss To Netherlands
The Indian
men’s hockey team suffered a narrow loss in their 2nd match against
Netherlands played at Amsterdam on 9th June 2025.
It was an
ideal start for the visitors as Abhishek missed a golden chance as the shot
went wide off goal post. Both teams showed their class with end-to-end hockey,
but defence was solid enough. Netherlands earned penalty corner but could not
convert it into a goal. At the end of the first quarter, the scores remained
0-0.
Netherlands
began the second quarter piling pressure on the Indian team. India earned their
first penalty corner as the shot from Rajkumar Pal went wide. Abhishek produced
a powerful stroke inside D leaving Netherlands goalkeeper in shock giving India
1-0 lead in the 20th minute. Van Dam scored a superb deflection goal
with lovely skills by Brinkmann in the 24th minute to allow the
hosts level the scores at 1-1. Both teams involved in high octane game with
Jugraj Singh getting injured. Abhishek also got injured with involvement against
Netherlands player. At the end of the first half, scores remained 1-1.
Tjep Hoedemakers
scored a superb field goal in 33rd minute to give Netherlands a 2-1 lead which
left the Indian defence in shock. India earned multiple penalty corners but all
three went in vain. They earned another penalty corner but this time the shot
was blocked by Netherlands defence. At the end of third quarter, Netherlands
led 2-1.
Indian team
started the fourth quarter on a positive note with aggression. They kept piling
on the pressure, but Netherlands remained solid not giving any chances. Jugraj
Singh converted 2nd penalty corner in the 54th minute to
level the scores at 2-2. Harmanpreet Singh was not there to take penalty corner.
Lalit Upadhyay could not beat goalkeeper on one-to-one situation.
With 3
minutes left on the clock, Janssen scored powerful penalty corner in the 57th
minute to give Netherlands 3-2 lead. Indian team decided to move goalkeeper away.
It was a good performance by Harmanpreet Singh led side.
Indian team
earned 9 penalty corners and converted only 1 while Netherlands scored 1 from
the 2 PC’s they earned.
They will
now play Argentina on 11th and 12th June. Indian team
would love to take positives from these two games against Netherlands and earn
points against Argentina.
