US Open Badminton 2025: Indian Youngsters Shine

It was a historic moment for Indian badminton as Ayush Shetty and Tanvi Sharma reach the finals of the Super 300 US Open tournament played at Council Bluffs, Iwoa, United States on 28th June 2025.

Ayush Shetty stunned top-seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in three thrilling games. The first game was a see saw battle with both players fighting for each point before the experienced Chou held onto his nerves to win it 23-21.

Ayush then showed his class putting Chou under pressure in the second game. He looked in control right from word go winning it easily by 21-15. It was another dominating display during the third and deciding game also with Ayush keeping consistent pressure with smashes to win it easily with scoreline of 21-14. This will be his first finals at senior level.

Ayush suffered loss in the semi-finals to Chou during the Taipei Open this year. He will face now Brian Young of Canada.

Road of Ayush Shetty Till Finals

Ayush Shetty proved his worth in the Super 300 US Open Badminton tournament right from word go. He began with a straight game win over M Johannsen by 21-17, 21-19 in the first round.

He then had fight out against his own teammate Tarun Mannepalli to win in three games with scoreline of 21-12, 13-21, 21-15 to move into the quarterfinals.

Ayush produces a dominating performance against qualifier 1 Kuo K-1 of Chinese Taipei in two straight games. It was a closely fought affair in the first game as the Indian won it 22-20 before dominating the second game by 21-9 to move into the semi-finals.

Women’s Singles

The 16-year-old Tanvi Sharma defeated Ukraine Polina Buhorva in two straight games. She did not look nervous and played attacking badminton winning with a scoreline of 21-14, 21-16. It was an impressive by Tanvi who would look to give her all in her first finals at such big stage. She will take on number 1 seed Biewen Zhang of USA.

Tanvi began her campaign defeated 2nd seeded Nguyen of Vietnam in two straight games. The first game was a closely fought affair before the 16-year Tanvi won with 21-19 scoreline. She dominated play in the second game to win it easily by 21-9.

Tanvi stunned Thailand Opatniputh with an impressive performance winning it in two straight games by 21-18, 21-16 to move into the quarterfinals.

She displayed another impressive win over Letshanaa of Malaysia in two straight games. The young Indian won with scoreline of 21-13, 21-16 to move into semi-finals.

Indonesia Open 2025: Satwik/Chirag Enter Quarters, Others Crash Out

  The men’s doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag entered the quarterfinals while other 3 Indians lost in the 2 nd round of the Super 1000 Indonesia Open played at Jakarta on 5 th June 2025. Satwik/Chirag Shetty edged past R Kjaer and Sogaard of Denmark in three games. The first game began with both pairs fighting for each point. Kjaer and Sogaard displayed great service skills.   The Indian shuttlers had a disappointing outing as only one of them made it into the quarterfinals of the Super 1000 Malaysia Open 2025 played at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur on 9 th January. HS Prannoy, women’s doubles pair of Tressa Jolly suffered narrow losses while Bansod, mixed doubles pair of Crasto/Kapila, and other pair lost in a one-sided affair. Tressa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand suffered a heartbreaking loss to Jia Ya Fan and Zhang of China in three thrilling games.
