China Open 2025 Day 1: HS Prannoy Enter 2nd Round, Lakshya Sen Crash Out
It was a
mixed day for Indian shuttlers as HS Prannoy entered made it into the second of
the Super 1000 China Open played at Changzhou on 22nd July 2025.
HS Prannoy
made a stunning comeback to beat 18th ranked Koki Watanabe of Japan
in three thrilling games. The first game saw Watanabe dominating with lovely
smashes and not allowing any chances for Prannoy making a comeback winning it
easily by 21-8.
The second
game was a closely fought affair right from word go before Prannoy made a
strong comeback to take 11-9 lead at the break. After the break, Prannoy showed
his class winning by 21-16 and match going into decider.
Watanabe
made a strong start to the third set putting enough pressure on the Indian. The
Japanese kept hitting smashes and looked in complete control with a 11-2 lead
at the break. After the interval, Prannoy made a stunning comeback to take
points in succession. It was a sensational fightback as star Indian shuttler
saved 5 match points to level the scores at 20-20. Prannoy showed courage to
take the third game at 23-21 and move into second round. He will face Chou Tien
Chen of Chinese Taipei.
Lakshya Sen
went down fighting to Li Shifeng of China in three games. Sen began the first
game on a positive note before Li made a strong comeback. Both players looked
sharp with their smashes. Sen had 11-9 lead at the mid-game break. After the
break, it was one-way traffic as Lakshya won with a scoreline of 21-14.
The second
game saw Li putting enough pressure on Sen with his smashes and continuing
dominating. At the break, Li had a 11-5 lead. From 10-16 down, Lakshya Sen made
a stunning comeback to level the scores. It ebbed and flowed before Li took the
second game in thrilling contest by 24-22.
Li Shifeng
looked dominating right from the word go in third game. He kept hitting smashes
and kept Lakshya Sen under pressure. The Chinese maintained and won the third
set by 21-11.
The mixed
doubles of Rohan Kapoor/Shivani Kapoor went down to Wong TC and Lim CS of
Malaysia in three games. The first game was a closely fought affair before
Rohan and Shivani held onto their nerves to win it by 27-25.
The initial
stages of the second game was close fought affair before Wong TC and Lim CS
dominated Indian pairing to win it by 21-16. Malaysian pair showed their class
in third set winning with 21-14 scoreline.
Anupama Upadhyaya suffered loss to Lin C-t of Chinese Taipei in three games. The first game was closely fought affair before Anupama won it by 23-21. Lin showed her class to win next two games easily by 21-11, 21-10

Unnati Hooda and men’s doubles pair of Satwik/Chirag Shetty will start their campaign
tomorrow.
