China Open 2025 Day 2: Great Day For Indian Shuttlers

 

The Indian shuttlers had a remarkable 2nd day with PV Sindhu, Unnati Hooda and Satwik/Chirag Shetty made it into the 2nd round of the Super 1000 China Open played at Changzhou on 23rd July.

PV Sindhu finally crossed the first round hurdle stunning world number 6 Tomoyka Miyazaki of Japan in three games. The first game saw the star Indian shuttler show intent right from the word go putting pressure on the Japanese. At the mid-game break, Sindhu had a 11-5 lead. After the break, despite Miyazaki efforts, Sindhu won the first game comfortably at 21-15.

The second game began on an even keel with both players earning alternate points till 6-6. Miyazaki upped the ante with lovely smashes and drop shots not allowing any chances to comeback into the game. At the mid-game break, Miyazaki led 11-6. After the break, it was one-way traffic as the Japanese won the second game by 21-8.

PV Sindhu started the 3rd and deciding game on an aggressive note with smashes keeping Miyazaki under immense pressure. It was a dominating display of badminton by Sindhu taking a commanding 11-2 lead at the break. After the interval, Miyazaki put on an excellent display of badminton to fightback strongly. Sindhu held onto her nerves to win the third set by 21-17 to move into the second.

Unnati Hooda stunned higher ranked Kirsty Gilmour in two straight games. The first game saw Hooda showed intent right from the word go and won the first game easily by 21-11.

The second game saw both players fighting for each point before Gilmour showed her experience to take a 11-6 lead at the break. After the interval, Hooda made a stunning comeback taking points in succession levelling scores and then winning the second game comfortably by 21-16 to qualify for the second round. PV Sindhu and Unnati Hooda will face in the second round.

The men’s doubles pair of Satwik/Chirag Shetty made it into the second round with a dominating two straight game win over H Okamura and Mitsuhashi of Japan. The Indian pairing showed their class not allowing any chances for their opponents with 21-13, 21-9 victory. They will face Carnando/Maulana of Indonesia in second round.

R Panda/S Panda suffered straight game loss to Yeung NT and Yeung PL of Hong Kong. The Indian pairing struggled losing by 12-21, 13-21.

2.      Unnati Hooda defeated Kirsty Gilmour (Women’s Singles)- 21-11, 21-16

3.      Satwik/Chirag Shetty defeated Okamura/Mitsuhashi (Men’s Doubles)- 21-13, 21-9

4.      R Panda/S Panda lost to Yeung NT and Yeung PL (Women’s Doubles)- 12-21, 13-21








PV Sindhu stun Miyakzki of Japan in the first round of Super 1000 China Open 2025, Unnati Hooda, Satwik/Chirag move into next round.
