BWF World Championship 2025: Satwik/Chirag Ensures India Medal, Other Two Knocked Out
The men’s
doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag Shetty ensured a medal with a commanding win
over their fancied opponent Aaron Chia and Soh of Malaysia while PV Sindhu
& Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto knocked out of the tournament in the
quarterfinals of the BWF World Championship 2025 played at Paris on 29th
August.
Satwik/Chirag
Shetty produced one of their best performances with a straight game win over
the 2nd seeded Malaysian pair Aaron Chia and Soh of Malaysia. The
first game began with a long 59 rally shots before Indian pairing gets the
point. Satwik/Chirag got six successive points at the start to build pressure
on Malaysian pair. It was a dominating performance by Satwik/Chirag as they
enter into mid-break with 11-5 lead.
After the
break, the fight for points continued with another long rally coming to 49
shots. Satwik/Chirag looked in sublime touch to win the first game easily at
21-12.
The second
game started with Satwik/Chirag taking the initial points before Aaron and Soh
made it 3-3. It was a dominating display by Indian pair putting enough pressure
on Aaron and Soh. Despite some resistance from Malaysia, Satwik/Chirag
maintained 11-7 lead at the break.
After the
break, Satwik/Chirag continued to maintain the lead with their solid defense
and attacking play. Both players were involved in another long rally going to
41 shots which resulted Malaysian pair winning the point.
It was
another superb rally from both pairs with 46 shots, but this time Satwik/Chirag
won the point to make it 19-15. Aaron Chia and Soh took 4 points in succession
to level the scores at 19-19. Satwik/Chirag held their nerves to win second
game by 21-19 and move into the semi-finals. They will face Y Liu and B Chen of
China.
It was
curtains for PV Sindhu as she suffered loss to Kusuma Wardani in three
thrilling games. The first game saw Wardani starting off brilliantly with lead
of 6-3 before Sindhu made a strong comeback to level the scores at 6-6. The Indonesian
upped her game to lead 11-6 at the break. After the break, it was one-way as
Wardani won by 21-14.
Sindhu
showed her class in the second game with lovely attacking shots keeping
Indonesian under immense pressure. At the mid-game break, Indian had a
commanding 11-3 lead and continued to maintain winning second game by 21-13 to
force the match into the decider.
The third
game was a closely fought affair right from the word go with both players
fighting for each point till 9-9. Wardani showed class to take a 11-9 lead at
the break. Despite great resistance by Sindhu, her opponent took important
moments winning third game by 21-16.
The mixed-doubles
pairing of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto great run ended losing to TJ Chen
and EW Toh of Malaysia in two straight games. It was a disappointing
performance by Kapila and Crasto who looked out of sorts with scoreline of
15-21, 13-21.
The Indian
shuttlers returned to podium after missing in the 2024 edition. Satwik/Chirag
will look to go ahead in tournament and win gold medal for country.
