Hero Men’s Asia Cup 2025: India Starts The Tournament With A Thrilling Win Over China
The Indian
Men’s hockey team started the Hero Men’s Asia Cup with a thrilling 4-3 win over
China in Group A encounter played at Rajgir Sports Complex, Rajgir on 29th
August 2025.
Indian team
began the first quarter with an aggressive move but Chinese goalkeeper Wang
made a stunning save. A penalty corner shot was converted before the visitors
decided to review the decision; it was overturned due to Hardik Singh push. China
stunned the home crowd as Du Shihao converted penalty corner into a goal in the
12th minute. Right before the hooter, India earned another PC but
Harmanpreet Singh shot went wide. At the end of first quarter, China led 1-0.
The captain
Harmanpreet Singh was not on the field as Jugraj Singh converted the penalty
corner in the 18th minute to level scores at 1-1. This time around,
Harmanpreet Singh converted PC in 20th minute giving India 2-1 lead.
Hardik Singh was given a green card for a foul meaning 2-minute suspension. At
the end of the first half, India led 2-1.
It was an
ideal start for the Indian team in 3rd quarter as Harmanpreet Singh
scored his 2nd goal with another penalty corner during 33rd
minute to double the lead. Hardik Singh was awarded a green card. China was
awarded PC as Chen Benhai scored in 35th minute reducing at 2-3.
China scored a goal but was it was disallowed as there was stick tackle outside
the D.
Harmanpreet
Singh could not believe as he missed penalty stroke hitting the goalpost and
coming out. Gao converted from a powerful drag flick in the 41st
minute to level scores at 3-3. Jarmanpreet Singh was awarded green card meaning
they were with one man down. At the end of the third quarter, the scores were
level at 3-3.
Indian team
began the fourth quarter on a positive note with Harmanpreet Singh scoring an
hattrick with his third penalty corner goal in the 47th minute to
give India 4-3 lead. Jarmanpreet Singh was given a yellow card meaning 5
minutes suspension with 8 minutes remaining in the game.
Jarmanpreet
Singh came back with 2 and half minutes left. India held onto their nerves as
they won the match by 4-3. India will next play Japan in another mouth-watering
clash on 31st August 2025.

In Group A
clash, Japan outclassed Kazakhstan by 7-0. It was a dominating performance by
the Japanese side winning with ease.
Group B
clash saw Malaysia win their opening match against Bangladesh by 4-1. Bangladesh
scored the first goal via penalty corner before Malaysia showed their class to
win the match easily.
The
defending champions South Korea registered dominating display to outplay
Chinese Taipei by 7-0.
