Hong Kong Open Badminton 2025: Indian Shuttlers On Fire
The Indian
shuttlers looked in fine form as 3 of them made it into the quarterfinals of
the Super 500 Hong Kong Open played on 11th September 2025.
Starting
the day, Satwik/Chirag Shetty defeated qualifiers P Sukphun and Teerarastukul
of Thailand in three games. The first game saw the Thailand pair playing
attacking badminton as the Indian pairing struggled committing unforced errors.
At the mid-game break, Thai player had 11-7 lead. After the interval, Satwik/Chirag
put on an excellent display of badminton to level the scores. Sukphun and
Teerarastukul won the first game comfortably at 21-18.
The second
game saw the Indian pairing increase the tempo putting the pressure on Thai
pair. After initial stages, the Thai pair showed fight and took a slender 11-10
lead at the break. Satwik/Chirag dominated their opponent not allowing any
chances to win the second game easily at 21-15 forcing into the decider.
Satwik/Chirag
looked in great touch right from the word go during the 3rd game. They
played attacking shots keeping momentum going with a 11-5 lead at the break.
After the interval it was one-way traffic as Indian pair won comfortably by
21-11 to move into quarterfinals. They will play J Arif and Yap RK of Malaysia.
Lakshya Sen
defeated his own teammate HS Prannoy in a thrilling 3 game. The first game saw
a closely fought affair with both players fighting for each point. Prannoy
looked in great touch after the break making sure that he won the first game
easily by 21-15.
The second
game was another closely fought affair with both players fighting for each
point. After the interval, it ebbed and flowed before Lakshya Sen showed skills
to win the second game easily at 21-18.
Lakshya Sen
dominated HS Prannoy in the third and deciding game. He played attacking shots
not allowing any chances for veteran Indian shuttler as Sen won by 21-10
scoreline to move into the quarterfinals.
Ayush
Shetty stunned fifth seeded Kodai Naraoka in three games. Kodai Naraoka began
the first game on a positive move with 5-2 lead but the former junior champion
Ayush stormed back into the match playing smashes that stunned Naraoka. At the
mid-game break, Japanese had 11-9 lead. After the break, Shetty was trailing
but applied pressure with smashes to win the first game by 21-19.
Naraoka
showed his class putting Ayush Shetty under pressure with lovely smashes and
drop shots. At the mid-game break, Naraoka led 11-5. The Japanese kept the
momentum going to win second game easily by 21-12.
The third
game began with both players earning alternate points till 3-3. Ayush Shetty
put enough pressure on the Japanese dominating the front court and drop shots
making sure Naraoka committed errors. At the mid-game break, Ayush led 11-5.
After the
break, Ayush continued to play aggressive badminton keeping the Japanese under
pressure winning decider by 21-14 moving into the quarterfinals. Ayush Shetty
and Lakshya Sen will meet each other in all India quarterfinals.
However, it
was curtains for Kiran George as he suffered straight game loss to Chou Tien
Chen by 6-21, 12-21 to be knocked out of the tournament.
