Australian Open Badminton 2025- Indian Shuttlers Shine

 

The Indian shuttlers had an outstanding day with all of them entering into round 2 of the Super 500 Australian Open played at Sydney on 19th November 2025.

Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, Tharun Mannepalli, Srikanth Kidambi, Ayush Shetty all progressed into the second round with contrasting wins.

Tharun Mannepalli defeated M Johannsen of Denmark in three thrilling games. The first game saw the Indian dominating his opponent to win by 21-13. Johannsen fought back strongly in second game before winning it with scoreline of 21-17. It was a very closely fought affair in deciding game before Tharun held onto his nerves to win by 21-19. He will face Lin C-y of Chinese Taipei.

Srikanth Kidambi defeated Lee Chi Hao of Chinese Taipei in three thrilling games. Both players fought for each point in first game before Srikanth won it by 21-19. The second game also was a closely fought affair, but this time Hao held onto his nerves to win it by 21-19.

The third game a closely fought affair in the initial stages before Srikanth put on excellent display of badminton to win by 21-15 to move into second round. He will face S Ogawa of Japan.

Lakshya Sen went past his Chinese Taipei opponent Su L-y in two straight games. Sen won with comfortable gap of 21-17, 21-13 to move into second round. He will face the winner of Chi Y J and Wang T-w of Chinese Taipei.

Ayush Shetty also produced a dominating performance against S Yuan of Canada. Shetty looked in brilliant touch not allowing any chances to his opponent with 21-11, 21-15 scoreline. He will face Kodai Naraoka of Japan in second round.

HS Prannoy fought back to win against Y Marcellyno of Indonesia in three games. Marcellyno started the first game on a positive note putting enough pressure on Prannoy winning it by 21-6. Prannoy showed great courage and belief to win next two games by 21-12, 21-17 to move into the second round. He will face A Farhan of Indonesia.

Kiran George went down fighting for Kenta Nishimoto in three games. The first game saw George producing a dominating performance to win by 21-11. It was a very close fought affair in the second game as both players fought for each point before Nishimoto held onto his nerves to win by 24-22. The third and deciding game also was a close fought affair before Nishimoto won by 21-17.

1.      Tharun Mannepalli defeated M Johannsen (Men’s Singles)- 13-21, 21-17, 21-19

2.      Srikanth Kidambi defeated Lee Chi Hao (Men’s Singles)- 21-19, 19-21, 21-15

3.      Lakshya Sen defeated Su L-y (Men’s Singles)- 21-17, 21-13

4.      Ayush Shetty defeated S Yuan (Men’s Singles)- 21-11, 21-15

5.      HS Prannoy defeated Marcellyno (Men’s Singles)- 6-21, 21-12, 21-17

6.      Kiran George lost to Kenta Nishimoto (Men’s Singles)- 21-11, 22-24, 17-21.
