Australian Open Badminton 2025: Three Indian Shuttlers Qualify For QF
It was a
mixed day for the Indian shuttlers as 3 out of 6 made into the quarterfinals of
Super 500 Australian Open 2025 played at Sydney on 20th November
2025.
The men’s
doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag Shetty cruised past their Chinese Taipei
opponents Su Ching Hing and Wu Guan Xian in two straight games with scoreline
of 21-18, 21-11 in just 37 minutes.
It was a
struggle for the Indian pairing in initial stages as they made unforced errors.
After the mid-game break, Satwik/Chirag showed class putting the Chinese Taipei
under pressure to level scores at 17-17. They maintained the pressure to win
points in succession winning first game by 21-18.
Satwik/Chirag
looked in sublime touch during the 2nd game dominating right from
the word go. They did not allow any chances for their opponents winning it
easily by 21-11 to move into quarterfinals. Their next opponents will be
Indonesian pair of F Alfian and Fikri.
Ayush
Shetty stunned Kodai Naraoka with a straight game. It was a superb game of
badminton by Shetty. It was a very closely fought affair as the Japanese had
decent amount of lead before Shetty fought back strongly. Naraoka took a
slender 11-10 lead at break. After the break, there were long rallies but Ayush
Shetty looked in great touch to win the first game by 21-17.
The second
game was a very good start by Ayush Shetty keeping Naraoka under pressure with
smashes and drop shots. At the mid-game break, Shetty took a decent 11-6 lead
at the break. Naraoka fought back strongly taking points in succession to level
the scores. Shetty showed courage and fight to win the second game by 21-16 to
move into the quarterfinals.
Lakshya Sen
defeated Chi Yu Jin of Chinese Taipei in three games. Sen began the first game
on a positive note putting pressure on Chi not allowing any chances. At mid-game
break, Sen led 11-3. After the break, Sen continued his domination to be at 20-12
before Chi saved 5 match points before Indian hit a smash to win first game at
21-17.
The second
game saw Chi Yu Jin coming back strongly in style putting Sen under immense
pressure with his smashes. At mid-game break, Chi led 11-6. After the break, it
was one-way traffic as Chi won second set by 21-13.
Lakshya Sen
and Chi started the deciding game on an even keel with both players taking
alternate points till 6-6. Sen upped his game putting Chi under pressure taking
11-7 lead at the break. After the break, it was a dominating display by Sen
winning easily by 21-13 to move into quarterfinals. Lakshya Sen will face Ayush
Shetty in all India quarterfinals.
However, it
was curtains for Kidambi Srikanth losing to Ogawa of Japan in two straight
games with scoreline of 20-22, 16-21. Both players looked in good touch
fighting for each point before Srikanth took 18-15 lead. Ogawa fought back
strongly to win the first game 22-20.
Ogawa
produced a dominating display in the second game not allowing any chances for
Srikanth with commanding 11-4 lead. After the break, Srikanth tried his best
but it was not enough as the Japanese won by 21-16.
Tharun
Mannepalli went down fighting to 5th seeded Lin C-y of Chinese
Taipei. The first game saw Lin producing a dominating display winning it by
21-13. It was a closely fought affair in the second game before Tharun won with
scoreline of 21-19. Lin upped his game during deciding game to win comfortably
by 21-10.
HS Prannoy
also suffered straight game loss to A Farhan of Indonesia. The first game was a
very closely fought affair before Farhan won it by 21-19. Farhan looked in great
touch during 2nd game to win easily at 21-10.

Singles)- 19-21, 10-21.
