Malaysia Open 2026: Mixed Day For Indian Shuttlers

The Indian shuttlers had a mixed day with PV Sindhu and Satwik/Chirag Shetty entering into the quarterfinals of the Super 1000 Malaysia Open played at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur on 8th January 2025.

PV Sindhu dominated Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan in two straight games. The star Indian shuttler looked in complete control putting Miyazaki under pressure with smashes and drop shots not allowing any chances to win the match by 21-8, 21-13 qualifying for the quarterfinals. She will face 3rd seeded Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.

The men’s doubles pairing of SatwikRanikReddy/Chirag Shetty eased past through their Malaysian opponents J Arif and Yap R K in two straight games. It was a closely fought first game before Indian pairing won with scoreline of 21-18. Satwik/Chirag dominated their opponents in the second game putting Malaysian under pressure to win by 21-11 and enter into the quarterfinals. They will face F Alfian and MS Fikri of Indonesia in the last eight stage.

It was curtains for Lakshya Sen as he suffered straight game loss to Lee Chik Yu of Hong Kong. Sen dominated Lee Chik Yu right from the word go putting pressure. Sen looked in complete control with 20-16 lead before Lee fought back strongly to win five points in succession to win first game by 22-20.

The second game began well for Lakshya in the initial stages with 4-0 lead. Lee Chik Yu fought back strongly keeping the Indian under immense pressure. Both players fought for each point before Sen led 11-8. After the interval, Lee fought back strongly to level the scores at 11-11 and continued to dominate Lakshya winning by 21-15.

Ayush Shetty went down fighting to Shi Y Q of China in three games. The first game was closely fought affair before the seeded number Shi held onto his nerves to win by 21-18. Ayush showed great fight and spirit in the second game before winning with same scoreline of 21-18.

It was one-way traffic in the third and deciding game as Shi looked in complete control to win by 21-12.

4.      Ayush Shetty lost to Shi Y Q (Men’s Singles)- 18-21, 21-18, 12-21.

The best all-rounder in limited-overs format from Bangladesh, Shakib AL Hasan picked the best figures in Caribbean Premier League history played at Bridgetown, Barbados on 3 rd August 2013. In this match, Trinidad and Tobago Red Steels captain Dwayne Bravo won the toss and decided to bat first.   The men’s doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag entered the quarterfinals while other 3 Indians lost in the 2 nd round of the Super 1000 Indonesia Open played at Jakarta on 5 th June 2025. Satwik/Chirag Shetty edged past R Kjaer and Sogaard of Denmark in three games. The first game began with both pairs fighting for each point. Kjaer and Sogaard displayed great service skills. Satwik/Chirag fought back strongly to make a comeback. At the mid-game break, Danish pair led 11-10. After the break, Kjaer and Sogaard played brilliant badminton winning the first game by 21-16.
