Badminton Asia Team Championship 2026: Indian Women And Men’s Team Starts On Winning Note

The Indian women’s team and men’s began the Badminton Asia Team Championship with contrasting style on the opening day played at Qingdao, China on 4th February 2026.

Indian Women’s Team Blank Myanmar

It was a dominating performance by Indian women’s team in their first Group Y fixture against Myanmar.

Tanvi Sharma began India’s campaign with a dominating win over Thet Htzar Thuzar in the first women’s singles. Tanvi looked in complete control putting pressure on her opponent winning with a scoreline of 21-13, 21-16.

Santosh Ramraj cruised past her opponent Eaint Chit Poo in the second women’s singles. Ramraj showed domination to register comfortable 21-12, 21-6 win.

Malvika Bansod put on a dominating display to register a commanding 21-9, 21-12 win over Lin Lin Htet in the third women’s singles match.

Priya Konjenbgam/Shruti Mishra defeated Su Latt/Thet Htzar Thuzar in the first doubles with a comfortable scoreline of 21-15, 21-16 to give India 4-0 lead.

Tressa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand register a dominating win over Lin Lin Htet and Eaint Chit Poo in two straight games of 21-8, 21-6 to make it 5-0.

With this win, the Indian women’s team made it into the quarterfinals of prestigious tournament. They will face Thailand in their last league match tomorrow.

2.      Santosh Ramraj defeated Eaint Chit Poo (Women’s Singles)- 21-12, 21-6

3.      Malvika Bansod defeated Lin Lin Htet (Women’s Singles)- 21-9, 21-12

4.      Priya Konjenbgam/ Shruti Mishra defeated Su Latt/Thet Htzar Thuzar (Women’s Doubles)- 21-15, 21-16

5.      Tressa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand defeated Lin Lin Htet/Eaint Chit Poo (Men’s Doubles)- 21-8, 21-6.  

Indian men’s team edge past Singapore in a thriller

The Indian men’s team started the tournament with a thrilling 3-2 win over Singapore.

Lakshya Sen suffered loss to Loh Kiean Yew in three games. The first game was a closely fought affair with both players fighting for each point before Loh took slender 11-9 lead. After the break, Loh dominated the play to win the first game by 21-16.

The second game saw Lakshya Sen storming back into the contest. Lakshya Sen led 11-7 at the break before Loh fought back strongly, before Sen held onto his nerves to win by 21-19. Loh looked in complete control in the deciding game putting consistent pressure on Sen to win the decider by 21-16 to give Singapore 1-0 lead.

The men’s doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag Shetty dominated their opponents Eng Koh and Junsuke Kobo in two straight games. Satwik/Chirag made light work of their opponents with 21-10, 21-8 win to make it 1-1.

Ayush Shetty registered comfortable win over Jason Teh in the second men’s singles. Despite being on the backfoot, Shetty fought back strongly to take first game at 21-17. It was a closely fought affair in the second game at 6-6 before Ayush took 6 successive points to win by 21-15 to give India 2-1 lead.

Sai Pratheek/Roy suffered loss to NGE Joo Jie and Donovan Willard in three games. Sai and Roy produced dominating performance in the first game winning with comfortable 21-8.

Joo and Donovan made a tremendous fightback to win the next two games by 23-21, 22-20 to make it 2-2 for Singapore.

Kidambi Srikanth register a dominating win over Jia Wei Joel in two straight games. Srikanth put on dominating display with 6 successive points which put him comfortable position to win first game by 21-15.

The second game was a closely fought affair with both players fighting for each point but Srikanth experience helped him to win by 21-16 and seal the tie with 3-2 scoreline.

They will face Japan in the second Group game to decide the table topper.

2.      Satwik/Chirag Shetty defeated Eng Koh/Kobo (Men’s Doubles)- 21-10, 21-8

3.      Ayush Shetty defeated Jason Teh (Men’s Singles)- 21-17, 21-15

4.      Sai Pratheek/Roy lost to NGE Joo Jie and Donovan Willard (Men’s Doubles)- 21-8, 21-23, 20-22

5.      Kidambi Srikanth defeated Jia Wel Joel (Men’s Singles)- 21-15, 21-16.
