Swiss Open 2026 Day 3: Two Indian Shuttlers Enter Quarterfinals

 

It was a decent outing for the Indian shuttlers as 2 of them entered into the quarterfinals of Super 300 Swiss Open 2026 played at Basel, Switzerland on 12th March.

The number 1 seeded men’s doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag Shetty edged past their Japanese opponents H Okamura and K Yamashita in three thrilling games. The Japanese pair started off brightly with 2 early point before both pairs fought for each point with lovely smashes. At the mid-game break, Satwik/Chirag moved to a 11-8 lead. After the interval, it was one-way traffic as Indian pairing won the first game with ease by 21-15.

Okamura and Yamashita began the 2nd game on an aggressive note putting Indian pairing under immense pressure. Despite a mini-game comeback by Satwik/Chirag, Japanese pair took a 11-6 lead at the break. After the interval, Indian pair fought back, but Okamura and Yamashita won second game comfortably by 21-15.

Satwik/Chirag made a flying start to the third game putting Japanese pair under pressure with smashes. After Indian pairing being 9-6 ahead, Okamura and Yamashita fought back strongly to take a slender 11-10 lead at the break. Both pairs showed great resilience not wanted giving up. It ebbed and flowed right till the end before Satwik/Chirag held their nerves to win by 28-26 scoreline to move into quarterfinals. They will face CF Kjaer and R Kjaer of Denmark.

Tharun Mannepalli produced a dominating display of badminton registering two straight game win over Justin Hoh of Malaysia. The first game saw Mannepalli not allowing any chances to his opponent winning by 21-14. Both players fought for each point in the 2nd game before Tharun went onto to win with narrow scoreline of 22-20 to move into quarterfinals. He will face Anthony Gingting of Indonesia.

It was curtains for Kiran George as he lost to Jason Gunawan of Hong Kong in three games. George began the first game on a positive note with 8-3 lead. Gunawan made a stunning comeback putting Indian under pressure to win first game by 21-18.

The second game saw Gunawan making a strong start putting George under immense pressure. Both players fought for each point, but this time George held his nerves to win 2nd game by 21-16.

It was a decent start for Kiran George in the deciding game. Both players fought for each point before George took a 11-9 lead at break. After the interval, Gunawan upped his game not allowing any chances for his opponent to win with 21-16 scoreline.

The men’s doubles pairing of Hariharan Amsakarunan & MR Arjun lost to Chen C-k and Lin BW of Chinese Taipei in two straight games. It was a closely fought affair in the first game as both pairs fought for each point before Chen and Lin took a slender 11-10 lead at the break. After the interval, Chinese Taipei showed their class winning by 21-17.

Chen and Lin produced a dominating display in the second game not allowing any chances for Indian pairing winning by 21-11.

The mixed doubles pairing of Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto suffered straight game loss to Gao J X and Wu MY of China. Indian pairing struggled right from the word go losing by 15-21, 17-21.

1.      Satwik/Chirag Shetty defeated Okamura/Yamashita (Men’s Doubles)- 21-15, 15-21, 28-26

2.      Tharun Mannepalli defeated Justin Hoh (Men’s Singles)- 21-14, 22-20

3.      Kiran George lost to Jason Gunawan (Men’s Singles)- 18-21, 21-16, 16-21

4.      H Amsakarunan/MR Arjun lost to Chen C-k/Lin BW (Men’s Doubles)- 17-21, 11-21

5.      Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto lost to Gao JX/Wu MY (Mixed Doubles)- 15-21, 17-21.



 





Satwik/Chirag Shetty beat Okamura/Yamashita of Japan to reach QF of Swiss Open 2026, Tharun Mannepalli also qualify for QF
