Badminton Asia Championship 2026 Day 2: Good Day For Indian Shuttlers
The Indian
shuttlers had a good outing with PV Sindhu, Unnati Hooda, Ayush Shetty, HS
Prannoy, Shruti Mishra and Konjbeam made it into the second round of Badminton
Asia Championship event played at Ningbo, China on 8th April 2026.
Ayush
Shetty produced a stunning performance with straight game win over higher
ranked Li Shifeng of China in two straight games. It was a dominating effort by
Ayush right from the word go and never allowed any chances for Shifeng to win
by 21-13, 21-16 to move into round of 16. Shetty will face Chi Y-j of Chinese
Taipei.
HS Prannoy
defeated qualifier NH Dang of Vietnam in two straight games. Dang showed class
putting the Indian under pressure. Soon after, Prannoy made a stunning comeback
and keeping his opponent struggling. After the mid-game break, both players
took alternate points before Prannoy held onto his nerves to win first game
24-22.
It was a
dominating performance by Prannoy in the second game after an initial struggle.
He did not allow any chances for Dang winning with comfortable scoreline of 21-12.
Prannoy will face Weng Yeng of China.
PV Sindhu edged
past lower ranked Wong Ling Ching of Malaysia in three games. The first game
began with both players taking alternate points till 7-7. Sindhu took a
commanding 11-7 lead at the break. After the interval, Wong fought back
strongly not allowing Sindhu any chances winning first game by 21-15.
The second
game saw Sindhu fightback strongly putting Wong under immense pressure with
smashes and drop shots. At the mid-game break, the star Indian shuttler took
11-6 lead. After the break, it was one-way traffic as Sindhu won it with ease
by 21-11.
It was an
amazing game of badminton in the third and deciding game. Both players fought
for each point before Sindhu looked in commanding position. Wong showed her
class taking a slender 11-10 lead. After the break, Sindhu came back strongly
looking to win the match before Wong tried her best, before the Indian won by
21-19. She will face Wang Zhi of China.
Unnati
Hooda stunned Supinda Kathenong in three games. Both players began on even keel
during initial stages before Hooda showed domination and took commanding lead
at the break. After the break, Supinda fought back strongly keeping Hooda under
immense to win first game by 25-23.
Hooda
showed her class in the second game not allowing any chances to Supinda and
made life tough to win by 21-8 scoreline.
It was a
great performance by Hooda who kept calm under pressure in the third and
deciding game to win by 21-18 to move into 2nd round. She will face
Miyazaki of Japan.
The women’s
doubles pair of Shruti Mishra and Konjenbgam defeated Pham TDL and Pham TK of
Vietnam in three games. The Indian pairing showed domination to win the first
game by 21-15. Pham and Pham staged a comeback winning second game easily by 21-17.
Mishra and
Konjenbgam showed their domination in the third game not allowing any chances
for their opponents to win by 21-13. They will face fifth seeded Fukushima and
Matsumoto of Japan.
However, it
was curtains for 2026 All England Badminton silver medalists as Lakshya Sen
lost to Lee Chik Yu of Hong Kong in two straight games. Sen struggled badly
with his shots losing by 10-21. The second one was much-better fight by Sen as
he showed great badminton skills to level the scores but the Indian lost with
19-21 scoreline.
Kidambi
Srikanth suffered three game loss to Loh Kiean Yew of Singapore. The first game
saw Loh showing his putting Srikanth under immense pressure with commanding
11-4 lead at the break. After the interval, Srikanth showing great courage and
stamina to take points in succession to win by 21-18.
Loh Kiean
Yew displayed attacking badminton in the 2nd game not allowing any
chances to the Indian. Loh had a similar 11-4 lead at break. This time around, Loh
maintained the lead and won second game easily by 21-9.
Loh started
the third game on a perfect note putting Srikanth under immense pressure with
6-1 lead. The Indian fought back strongly to take 5 points in succession leveling
scores at 6-6. Loh looked in complete control after that winning with 21-11
scoreline.
Tanvi
Sharma lost her first-round match against Letshanaa of Malaysia in two straight
games. It was a closely fought affair in the first game with both players
fighting for each point. Letshanaa took a slender 11-10 lead at the break.
After the interval, despite Tanvi efforts, Malaysian won first game by 21-19.
The second
game also began with both players fighting for each point. This time around
also, Letshanaa had slender 11-10 lead at break. After the interval, it was
one-way traffic as Malaysian won by 21-14.
Malvika
Bansod suffered straight game loss to Busnan Ongbamrunghpan of Thailand. The
first game saw Ongbamrunghpan produced a dominating display to win with ease by
21-10. It was a closely fought affair by Bansod in the 2nd game, but
the experienced Thai player won with 21-19 scoreline.
