Badminton Asia Championship 2026 Day 3: Ayush Shetty Enter Quarters, Others Crash Out

 

Ayush Shetty remained the sole survivor reaching the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Championship played at Ningbo, China on 9th April 2026.

Ayush Shetty produced a dominating performance winning against higher ranked Chi Yu Jen of Chinese Taipei in two straight games. The first game saw both players committing lots of unforced errors. Shetty stormed back with lovely shots keeping Chi under pressure. At the mid-game break, Chi led 11-9. After the break, Shetty upped his game not allowing any chances to his opponent winning by 21-16.

Shetty began the 2nd game on aggressive note taking an initial 4-0 lead. Chi stormed back taking 6 points in succession. Shetty showed his class with powerful smashes not allowing any chances to his opponent. At the mid-game break, the Indian had a decent lead. After the interval, it was one-way traffic winning with 21-12 scoreline to move into quarterfinals. He will face third seeded Jonthan Christie.

In the women’s singles section, PV Sindhu lost to Wang Zhi of China in two straight games. Both players began the first game on even keel taking alternate points before Wang showed his class to take lead. After break, Sindhu stormed back into the first game keeping the Chinese under pressure and levelling score at 18-18. Wang then took 3 points winning first game 21-18.

The second game saw Wang dominating right from the word go and maintaining consistent pressure on Sindhu winning by 21-8 scoreline.

HS Prannoy also suffered straight game loss to Weng Hong of China. The first game saw Prannoy struggling not able to keep pressure with attacking shots by Weng. Weng won the first game comfortably by 21-12.

The second game was a much-better effort by HS Prannoy with lovely smashes and keeping Weng under pressure. At the mid-game break, Weng had a decent 11-8 lead. After the break, Prannoy fought back strongly to take 3-point difference at 14-11. Despite Indian efforts, Weng won by 21-19 scoreline.

Unnati Hooda also lost to Tomoyka Miyazaki in two straight games. The first game saw Unnati showing her class keeping Miyazaki under pressure. After the break, Miyazaki fought back strongly to take first game at 21-18. Unnati could not match speed in the 2nd game as he struggled right from word go. Miyazaki took a commanding 11-4 lead and maintained her domination winning by 21-8.

The mixed doubles pairing of Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto lost to Chen TJ and Toh EW of Malaysia in two straight games. Chen and Toh dominated right from the word go not allowing any chances to win by 21-13.

Kapila/Tanisha showed some glimpses of fightback in the 2nd game, but it was not enough as Chen and Toh won with 21-14 scoreline.

The women’s doubles pairing of Shruti Mishra and Konjenbgam lost to fifth seeded Fukushima and Matsumoto in two straight games. It was one-way traffic as Indian pairing lost by 10-21, 13-21.

5.      Dhurv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto lost to Chen and Toh (Mixed Doubles)- 13-21, 14-21

6.      Shruti Mishra/Konjenbgam lost to Fukushima/Matsumoto (Women’s Doubles)- 10-21, 13-21.
